This is gonna drive me nuts!
After spending hours downloading Star Wars trailers and making of docs....I can't convert them to VCD.
I tried with Tmpeg and all I get is a couple of minutes of blank screen and no audio!
I tried exporting with Quicktime Pro and it tells me it can't because the file doesn't support saving!
Does anyone have any ideas on how to solve this?
HELP!

I'm no Star War fan but after reading all these posts about not being able to convert Star War trailers, i'd really love to check see if the method described in my earlier post (see another thread hereunder) works. But without QTPro, which is needed to view the large version of the trailers from Apple.com, where else can i get the MOV files!? I was told they are available from some file-trading sites. The problem is, i don't wanna sign up an account just for doing the test.
Hey.. i just finished converting ep2_breathing_m320.mov downloaded from Apple.com. I used TMPGEnc 2.01 loaded with QTReader & had no problem, video or audio, converting it to MPEG-1. Strange??

I had no problems converting that trailer, it's the making of Episode II movies that I can't convert!
-
I checked out Star War official site just now. Making Episode II has 7 Parts & which Part is the one you couldn't convert, man?!
Anyway, i'm downloading Part 7:Revvin' It To The Next Level. Should take a while to download & convert the 29.5MB file so stay tuned for the results, ok.

I sure wish one of you guys could post the finished converted star wars files somewhere(like on a ftp server). I'd like to make a vcd of all of them
-
I can't convert any of them. They're copy protected and I can't figure out how to disable the protection.
I think it has something to do with the Sorenson video codec, but I'm not sure.
Any help would be immensely appreciated

I have used QT Pro to convert this trailer into AVI. Bink did not work. I have noticed lately, many of the Apple site
trailers are allowing exporting. I guess Lucas is allowing this to be exported. Just in case lets be hush hush and not tell them because they may change that policy.
Tarty: You are able to convert .mov files with TMPGEN 2.01?
I have trouble with the earlier versions since I have QT 5 pro installed. If 2.01 works for the QT 5 then I'll update TMPGENC. -
The trailers are converting fine, it's the behind the scenes documentaries that I cannot convert. I have Quicktime 5 Pro and it will not export the movies; saying the file does not allow saving

Went thru this 4 months ago.

Moog, i've gone thru the posts you directed us to. Does it mean that you guys had found the way out of the
QT->AVI/MPEG conversion maze?
I've tried with Parts 1 & 7 but MOV2AVI couldn't convert the Making Episode II MOV into AVI compressed or uncompressed. The converted AVI when played gives blank (black) video & no audio. I tried using a screen capture tool. The video is a black screen with the watermark logo (LucasFilm or something, i forgot) but the audio is okay.
Both Planet of the Apes & Making Episode II are Sorenson video & QDesign audio. I wonder why one can be converted & the other cannot. Right now, i'm still searching to see if there is a way to get aroundi it. If you guys have any idea pls let us know. -
Allright people, here's my howto on converting ALL quicktimes to MPEG-1/MPEG-2:
First install quicktime so the file plays using the quicktime player.
Then get the qtreader.vfp and put it in the tmpgenc directory so tmpgenc can open quicktime movies.
Then get mov2avi.exe (you can find it under the tools section of this site) and use it to extract the audio from the quicktime movie.
Use the quicktime movie as video source in tmpgenc and the extracted wav as audio source.
Choose vcd/svcd template and convert.
Easy!

Tarty: That was my point. There is no way that I could find to extract this with my current tools. I couldn't find the keys thru Dumpster. The Kremlin, I mean Lucas films, is protecting the empire from allowing us to watch on a screen no bigger then a microwave oven. Most likely reedits them for his DVD releases.
Trying to find ways all summer. I gave up because it's not that important to me. I'll save them to disc then a solution may come around by the time DVD burners are mass produced.

If that is the case, i abort the search then. I don't think i'm a better hunter than you guys are. I am no Star War fan anyway. As as long as the movie trailers that i want can be converted, i am happy.

I converted the E2 trailers from quicktime to mpeg 1. Here's how I did it. I'm sure there are better ways, but this worked for me. Need Quick time 5 and Ulead Video Studio 4.0.
Open the quicktime file using Ulead (I'd wager any video editing program so long as you have the latest quicktime codec) and finalize through whatever editing program you might have. I did it. The audio is slightly out of sink, but not enough to care on a 2 minute trailer.
Good luck. -
Allow me to put it straight once & for all:
From MOV to AVI/MPEG conversion..
we have *NO problem* converting: Star War movie *TRAILERs*.
we *HAVE problem* converting: *Making Episode II.* !!!

I found a fix for StarWars Behind the Scenes QuickTime.
1. Open any QuickTime video that can be converted.
2. Drag and drop Behind the Scene file onto the video.
3. Select Edit->Trim
4. Save As "Self-contained" Movie
5. Convert as Normal
Have just successfully done 2 videos so far.

Good job Rovert!
I think you got it. I'm converting ep7 now into.avi thru Qt Pro 5. I couldn't with Bink for some reason. Same with the trailer versions. I just read the QuickStart book on QT and that should have clued me in! Now using TMPG encoder. Audio a little wobble in .avi. But it looks like this will work!
I was going to put a Holiday movie trailer VCD together, but I deleted 800 megs worth of conversions including the three Star War 2 trailers and the ET 20th aniv release. Oh well. Too late now.
