I'm backing up a DVD, using DVD Shrink 3.2. About halfway through the process, I get a popup dialogue box with this error "DVD Shrink encountered an error and cannot continue. Failed to read drive E:\. Data error - cyclic redundancy check."
Any suggestions as to what might be causing this? Any fixes?
    Thanks!

  2. Clean the disc. There are probably other causes of that error, but every single time I've encountered it, I've cleaned the disc and not had a problem.

Rip with DVD DECRYPTER in FILE MODE first then use DVD SHRINK 3.2 to compress.

What are the advantages of File Mode over ISO mode?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

Thank you thinger62! I never thought of looking at the disc itself and sure enough, it was smudgy. I cleaned it and was able to back it up with no problem. Thanks a lot for the suggestion!

some people have problems with DVD SHRINK with error msgs. one of the suggestions is to let DVD DECRYPTER RIP IN FILE MODE, which means it will rip all the files from the dvd hopefully without any error msgs. then you open up DVD SHRINK, click on OPEN FILES, find the folder where you ripped all the files from DVD DECRYPTER then you begin to compress with DVD SHRINK. At times I guess DVD SHRINK has probs in ripping. If you do a search in here you'll find some have had similar problems.

I only use ISO MODE when the dvd movie is single layer (dvd5). No compression is needed so rip in ISO MODE then burn with DVD DECRYPTER.
