You organize your DVD's upside down?

My DVDs are organized by.... ....well they are beside the TV, but aren't in any particular order.

You see, my family can read, so when we want to watch "Scarface", we look down the stack until we see the DVD case that says "Scarface" on the side.

Totes... I organize them in Totes Huge ass Totes (3) of them, I have like (8) 200 Ct wallets plus 568 cased DVD's (Domestic) 430 cased (imports)

I have just over 3000 dvd's Mostly DVD-R. It is sickening. I tried doing the DVDAF.COM list... I gave up at 500 something, I said screw it, when I am in the mood to watch something I will spend 1/2 hour looking for that special movie to brighten up my day.

However, on the Entertainment Center is my most watched list.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Dawn of the Dead (Remake and Original)
    Shaun of the Dead
    Half Baked
    Dave Chappelle Season 1
    Billy Madison
    Versus

It gets rotated every other month, but Fear and Dawn are always there. If anyone has a suggestion on how to organize this monstrosity... please Clue me in.

I have about 200 DVD-Rs. I stick them in baskets with plastic/paper holders, 2 DVD's to each holder. Names written on the discs with a Sharpie.

I do have a index program to catalog them. Also some 200 or so SVCD's that I am slowly converting to 3 per DVD disc.

Organization? Not likely. I select what sounds good when I find it. I may alphabetize some day.

I haven't counted in a while. I think I've only got around 350 or so. Yes the are all alphabatized. I just put them in order as I got them, and keep it up as they come in. If you do that then its no work keeping them in order at all, and I can go straight to the movie I want at anytime.

I guess I should have been more specific.... :P

In the totes are Store bought DVD's Each tote holds 135 DVD's so
    135 x 3 = 405

I have on a bookcase shelf 568, Plus in the bedroom In the closet shoe shelf in 430 imports so 568+430+405 = 1403

    then I have 8 200 count wallets of DVD-R and DVD+R 8*200=1600

    1600+1403=3003 GT

I had my whole collection set up in MS Excel. But, the file got lost in a recent system upgrad & Re-install. I was upset.

This looks to be a quick way to get back on top.

It is an excellent program the front end is a million times better than the web interface that you are seeing. My favourite part is that you do not type in any of the details, simply the barcode and the program gets all the info for you.

I keep kids dvd's in cases so they can easily see titles and covers, with backups on spindles.

My own I keep in nifty leather binders which hold one dvd and full cover per page. I get those for $3 for binders that hold 20. a couple hundred dvd's take less room than 30 in cases. and they are easy to flip through.

  23. The best way. By not organizing them I figure if I really want to watch something, it's worth searching for.

I own over 400 DVD titles and most are put away in alpha order in the top shelve cupboard.

I will have to make time to get them organized again as new ones are getting the collection out of order and hard to find.

I also got two DVD towers holding 36 titles each. I also got another two more towers for the music CDs as well.

I make a document in MS Word to list the titles I got in the collection. I have to update it everytime a new DVD is bought.

This is another reason to have another look and to get them organized again to make sure all are accounted for in the document.

I might even use MS Access to list the titles in order.
