HELP!, TMPGenc won't recognize any of my Mac files

Hey folks,

For some reason I can't get TMPGenc to recognize any files that I export from my Mac version of Premiere 6.0. I'm exporting as Quicktime movies using the DV-NTSC compressor option. (My Quicktime is 4.1.2). I'm running Virtual PC 4 with Windows 98 loaded. Is there anything special I need to do to get TMPGenc to read these files?

Also the MPEG2 files that I create with Cleaner 5 aren't recognized by TSCV.

The only thing that I've been able to do is create MPEG1 files in Cleaner 5 and use those in TSCV.

If anyone can help get me moving along I would greatly appreciate it.

Export them to .avi files.... Then encode in TMPGenc...
Then multiplex..... Then burn with toast...

I'm Having the same problem. I'm now trying to export from premiere using cleaner 5 to get a mpeg2 stream (dvd ready) so that I might be able to bring it to the p.C.

that quicktime plug in for tmpgenc doesn't work at all. I've tried it plus I also noticed that i can even open the original jpeg pictures that made the movie slide show in premiere; from photoshop. really wierd. but windows picture and fax viewer could open these files. the files were originally done on a mac. any response would be much appreciated.

I had the same problem for a while. In my case it was the time/date information in the mac files that somehow got corrupted when they were transfered to the PC via a network.
I solved it temporarily by opening the .mov file in the quicktime player on the PC and then I choosed "save as" to save a small handler of the file. (It refers to the .mov file that you created first. Takes no time and loses no quality.) Then, choose the handler .mov file in TMPGEnc instead and it should work. (Of course, you must have QTReader installed in TMPGEnc first...)

I've made some progress since my original post.
I can get TMPG to read my Premiere (Mac) file. I have to copy it to my Virtual PC drive. I had been trying to access it from a 'shared' drive under Virtual PC, but it kept giving me the 'unsupported file' error. So once I copy it over to the C: drive and set the C: drive as the destination for the encoded file it works.

I've also done the trick with opening the Premiere file using the Windows Quicktime Player and then just doing a "Save As" and that worked.

However, with each of the methods I haven't been satisfied with the results of TMPG. The motion gets encoded pretty good, but the color and the level of detail are not acceptable. I've also used Cleaner 5 to encode files and copied them over to the Virtual PC drive and used TSCV to create a bin. The Cleaner files have great color and sharpness, but the motion is slightly stuttered. So I've been trying to improve either the template for TMPG or the template for Cleaner but I haven't been able to come up with anything yet.

So the end result is that you can get TMPG to recognize the Premiere files, but you may not be happy with the quality.

Try using Quicktime...
Put all of your jpegs in one folder....Name them 01.jpeg,02jpeg etc(images have to be in numeric sequence)...
Open Quicktime.... Go to file... Open image sequence...
Change the frame rate to how long you want each picture to be viewed... Save the movie self contained (.MOV)... View the movie to make sure it looks right...
NOTE: If the .jpegs are not ALL THE SAME SIZE (example 1024 x 76 you will get distorted pictures in your .mov...
Export your image movie.mov to .avi... Save in the drive you can see in Virtual PC.... Use TMPGenc to encode and multiplex.... Burn with Toast...
