is there a way to convert Matroska files to a format that can be put onto DVD
i have tried hero and eo video with no luck , the sound is out of sync sometimes and even when there is sound i only get half a film converted , even though the programe says the whole film is converted, its driving me mad
i have got all the Matroska stuff insatlled as far as i know and can play the film in media player as well as a variety of other players , its just getting the damn thing onto dvd thats annoying the hell out of me

also tried vdub mod but that dosent open the mkv at all and avi audio decompressor 1.4 but that just hangs
head scratching -
got the vdub version that came with gordian knott to see the file followed the demux walkthrough but when i originaly opened the file it said this
[!] MKV: The video may have a variable framerate. If so we strongly advise you
to use another tool to safely process your file.
[!] Couldn't locate decompressor for format 'ÿÿÿÿ' (unknown).
VirtualDub requires a Video for Windows (VFW) compatible codec to
decompress video. DirectShow codecs, such as those used by Windows Media
Player, are not suitable. Only 'Direct stream copy' is available for this
video.
but when i tried to delete the orinal soundtrack and replace it with an mp3 and then save as an avi it says direct stream not available
go figure , i`m stuck , anybody else got more thoughts than just me ? -
also forgot to mention that i couldnt delete the original soundtrack , the delete just would not become available when i selected the original track

TMPGEnc will read Matroska through DirectShow by choosing "Open / All files".
(Thats assuming you have the proper Matroska Splitter filter installed, as well as codecs supporting the Audio and Video Streams)
RV40 sounds like RealMedia, do you have RealPlayer or RealAlternative installed?
To playback through DirectShow you'll need either "Gabest RealMedia Splitter" filter; http://www.inmatrix.com/zplayer/formats/realmedia.shtml
or
Gabest's "Media Player Classic", which has the filter built-in.
To convert, you'll need something that accesses DirectShow (like TMPGEnc) or AviSynth (DirectShowSource("example.mkv") ).
VirtualDub Mod understands MKV but it doesn't know what to do with RealMedia.
of course, you could always make a new template....
something like;
------------------------
#ASYNTHER RealMedia 30fps
[DirectShowSource("%f",30)]
------------------------
just change the "30" for whatever framerate your source is.
(This template does open RealMedia (*.rm) files in VirtualDub Mod through AviSynth. It requires that AviSynth, and RealAlternative (or RealPlayer + RealMedia splitter) be installed. -
thanks gastorgrab
i have read your reply and am now going to re-read it slowly so i can get my head round it properly
