What I want to do is take dvd-r's that have been recorded on a stand-alone and spruce them up with real menu's and background music.
I know that TMPGEnc DVD Author will not allow you to lay audio over the top of a still image in the background of your menu pages.
I am also running Windows ME so the program has to be compatible.
There just seems to be so many issues with a lot of these programs that my head is spinning about which one to buy!
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The first thing to do is dump ME. To do video work you will need a stable modern operating system which ME is not.
Try Windows XP Home or Pro.
Next fill in your prfile so that we will know if the computer you are using is suitable for video work. -
Well it's not that big of a deal to me so I am not about to go through the bother of installing a new OS.
It was something I wanted to play around with as a hobby.
Thanks for the input! -
I use DVDit 2.5. Menu looks great. Very easy to add sound track to a menu. Just drag and drop. The only gripe I have with DVDit is no subtitle feature. You may want to try DVB-lab.

i would suggest changing the OS too....anyway....try Ulead Video studio or Movie factory.
i prefer video studio.
