Well I just got the dreaded error message after using my Epson RX600 printer only 6 weeks, the message reads "service required, parts inside your printer need to be replaced". I have read other posts that this really means the waste ink counter needs to be reset, can anyone tell me how to do this or where I might find out how to do this. My printer is totally locked up and can not print at all so your help and advice would really be appreciated. Thank you so much. PS-I have tried the SSC Utility but my printer is not supported by this program yet, at least the waste ink resetter function is not.
    Thank You,

Unless you have run something greater than 10 sets of inks (60 carts) through the cleaning cycles, it can not be your ink counter. What it is, I have no idea, but unlikely to be your waste ink counter.

TVI I have probably only run about 4 maybe 5 sets of carts tops, 24-30 total carts. Guess I will see if Best Buy will take it back, I think they have a 30 day policy though and I bought mine on 6/5 so it is past the 30 day window.

Best Buy is 14 days on most computer related parts. If you call Epson it is very likely they will send you a new one overnight.

Yep, it was a big help, said to "Contact Your Dealer" for this problem. NEVER will I buy another Epson. $350 for a piece of crap.

  8. Just wonder if this has anything to do with the problems you have been having with your new ink system and its chips messing the epson software up, or playing with the SSC software.
If you can return the printer to its un-modded state and its pretty new then epson are usually pretty good doing exchanges.
Been running a epson 900 here for over a year now with no problems and its gets hammered to death working every day.

iooi thank you for the suggestion. I doubt the CIS system had anything to do with it for this reason, it worked great for 2 days and I know many people who use this forum quite ofter who have CIS systems on their R200 and R300s and have never had a problem. The cartridges in my RX600 are the same as the R200 and R300 so it stands to reason if it were a problem with CIS system many more people would probably be seeking help on this forum like I am, no I think it is definitely the printer and I am 99% convinced that it has to do with the waste ink counter as I know many people have had problems with it. I have restored it to the original state and will call Epson techs first thing Monday morning. By the way have you ever had a problem with your Canon and the waste ink counter? I too print a lot, probably average a full cartridge of each color per week so this dumb waste ink counter is going to shut me down probably once a month then I have to take it to Epson dealer to get it reset unless I can find instructions some where on how to do it myself. Have looked ALL OVER the net trying to find instructions, no joy. Wish I could find a good quality printer to buy that doesn't have this waste ink counter or at least one where I could find DIY instructions on resetting it. Thanks again for your comments and have a great evening.
    Thank You,

Those multi function machines are very different animals. All I can say is good luck in your search for a different printer manufacturer, they all have their problems.

Did you have these problems before you added:
    1. Non OEM carts for continues ink flow system
    2. Non OEM chips
    3. Non OEM driver (SSC utility used but not designed for your model)

    just curious.

No, but I am confident the CIS system has nothing to do with the problem because it worked fine for 2 days after installing the proper chips for the CIS problem and hundreds of R200, R300 owners use CIS systems with not problems and my RX600 uses the same cartridge as these 2 printers. The problem happend when I did this: I put in a 4x6 glossy to print, slid the paper guide over accordingly, clicked print (ticked borderless feature), it jammed, clicked eject and it ejected the paper, no printing at all on paper. Reinserted the paper, clicked print (forgot to tick borderless) and it printed but with a slight crease/line running vertically down the entire print. So I printed again this time ticking the borderless feature, jammed again and I when I clicked on eject the printer gave me the following error message and is completely locked up and will not print:
"Service required, parts inside your printer need to be replaced". I think either something went wacko with the paper feeder or something is wrong with the borderless print feature. I think Epson will have to fix this one or at least I hope they will. Anyone who could share any advice on this problem I would be more than thankful.
    Thank You,

  14. I also had this error message pop up on my R300 screen.. after only 6 months of use and not all that many sets of cartridges (maybe 5-6 sets), but lots of cleaning!

Called up Epson support told them what I got, next thing I know they were setting me up for an exchange. Next day it arrived at my door, just have to send the old one back which they also pay the shipping fees for (in canada their office is in toronto and they have an account with purolator, they will come and pick it up from you)

Very impressed with the support, not too impressed with the printer now though.. where's those damn canon's!

Eldorado thanks for the info. I too called Epson and they are sending a new printer but I agree with you this should not happen with a new printer. This is my first and last Epson I can assure you. I would not base my Epson opinion on the fact that my printer was defective, that could happen to any manufacturer anytime, but there are literally hundreds of unhappy Epson owners out there for many different quality control problems as well as other problems with the company itself.
    Thank You,

  16. Well i'm on my 3'rd epson here and as yet have never had a problem that was'nt caused by me.
    Only changed them as upgrades.
400 bought for a Amiga 1200 as it had support for it must be 8 years ago.. then that got converted to a disk printer thanks the TVI's instructions.(now sadly in the bin)
640 next is still going strong in the sprogs room and she hammers printers to death... Must be 4 years old now
900 just over a year old and printing strong as ever.
Last 2 have only ever had one set of epson carts in and compatable's after that.

iooi does your 900 have a waste ink pad and counter like the newer models? This is my big gripe, these pads fill up fast and then lock your printer up with the error message, service required, something only an Epson dealer can do for you about 40-50 bucks later. As much as I print this will cost me a fortune. Been trying to find a service manual for RX600 so I could do it myself, impossible to find. Had an authorized Epson dealer tell me today that Epson does not even give these to the dealers until the printer has been on the market for 1 year (warranty period), that's ridiculous IMHO, that means every time the waste ink pad gets full I have to return it to Epson for service and be out my printer for probably 2-3 weeks, not my kind of company, sorry. Glad you have had good luck and hope it continues.
    Thank You,

Yes they all have waste ink pads/counters. The counter is set very high, somewhere in the neighborhood of more than .5 liter (16 ounces) of ink that has been absorbed. Some of the lower end models will hold even more.

Haven't looked at the screen shots yet, but since it can not connect to your printer, I would say something much worse is at hand.

TVI why would lower end models hold more, shouldn't it be the other way around, sounds like an engineering challenge or should I say problem?

  20. Don't printers have at least 90 day manufacteur's warranty. I would call Epson and explain you problem. They should cover it under warranty.

    He already has done.

Golfnut the lower end models are more likly to be cleaned more often as they wont get used as much. Like you and me who use printers every day mine very rarely need to have its heads cleaned. Add in anyone who uses a printer a lot always turns it off when not in use, unlike some people who leave them turned on and in sunlight which is bound to cause clogging trouble.
Maybe you would be better off geting a 200 or 300 if you want disk printing option, then get a seperate scanner. Or one of the cannon printers that can disk print.
    Good luck with your search.

  22. waste ink counter reset help here.
    email: eddieshere@hotmail.com

epson wants you to send these printers in for service , that's why they add these waste ink counter on it ( also referred to as a profit counter!!!)

you can reset this counter following certain procedures.
you will either have to change out the waste ink pad or just clean the think with alcohol warm water,etc.....
Once you reset the counter the printer wouldn't know the waste ink pad is used. it will just cycle until the next time the counter has to be reset.

    just email me for info..............

ANOTHER QUICK WAY TO SAVE ESPECIALLY IF YOU USE THE CIS SYSTEM LIKE I DO.
