  1. Well I have these two MPG files, I believe they were originally VCDS. In any case I am trying to edit and cut parts of them or convert them (either way). Windows media player plays them fine and shows them at 1 hour 30 minutes. Now all of the software I have used cannot read past 25 minutes on one and 48 minutes on the other mpg. Yet media player plays them and shows them fine at 1:30:00. Here are the tools I have used so far in an effort to either edit them, de-multiplex them, and/or convert them. NOTE: In ALL of these I used EVERY means the tool had of editing, repairing, demultiplexing, and converting:

    VCDGear (latest)
    Tmpgenc 2.5 PLUS
    Tmpgenc Express 3.0
    Ulead media studio pro 7
    Virtualdub/ VirtualdubMpeg
    Windows media encoder
    bbmpeg
    EO Video
    Womble MPEg2vcr
    Womble MPEG Video Wizard 2003

Using TMPgenc I used the edit function in merge cut and it DOES see the full movie but cuts off when outputting at around 25 min one the first and 48 minutes on the second mpg. If I use the edit function and set the mark in point AFTER 25 min or 48 min on the second one Tmpgenc says "Illegal video Stream." The rest of the tools above don't even see the full movie, they only "see" the mpg as 25 min on the first or 48 min long for the second mpg. So its obvious to me that these mpgs are messed up but if media player plays them fine full length isn't there a tool somewhere that can SOMEHOW capture the movie full length so I can then convert/edit it? Thanks for the help!

Did you try opening them in Virtualdubmod, check for any bad frames, then frameserve them into TMPGENC Plus, then re-enconde?

If I'm not mistaken VCDGear can also repair errors in the mpeg.
