  1. I am trying to change my .avi anime files into mpeg so that I can then burn them to a dvd. The problem is, the fps when I use AVI to MPEG converter is about 4fps, I turned off preview and yet it still goes that slow. Is it normal that encoding programs go this slow, or is it the AVI to VCD DVD MPEG converter im using, or could it be my computer?
    I have a p3 with 800mhz and a 9600 vid card with XP

    All help is greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Dain

How long is the video and how long does it take to encode it?

  3. Without seeing all your specs, that seems possible with an 800mhz

yep its pretty much like that... i have p3 800mhz aswell and converting avi to SVCD takes me 8 hours for every 350mb.... that 16 hours for every 700mb and most movies are 1400mb so it takes me about 32 hours for every movie!!!
VCD should be about 10-16 hours i think....

    Hello,
Ditto here also. I run a AMD 850mhz (though hopefully not for long, looking to upgrade soon, I hope ). It takes HOURS to encode anything. One thing could help, some encoders have a choice to change priority settings, if so choose high priority. That will shave some time off.

One note, if you have the original source (which you should) get a mpeg encoder card and capture in real time to the format you want (vcd, svcd dvd). It's a LOT easier than converting the other source. Just a suggestion.

P.S. If capture cards aren't an option, you have to suffer the wait or buy a newer computer (at almost $300 USD for some systems it's not that difficult these days )

  7. I was amazed at how slow TmpgEnc Xpress 3.0 is after encoding a 1.5 hour AVI (2pass VBR). It took over 12 hours on my XP2100+ (1.7ghz). Does that sound right because that is awful for speed? And that was video only, no audio.

In comparison, Mainconcept Encoder can do it in about 3 hours - roughly double realtime for 2pass VBR WITH audio (layer 2). If only MainConcept would support Dolby Digital AC3 and had all the great features of TmpgEnc Xpress does - it would be the perfect encoder.

  8. Hi,

    I have 3.2 AMD proccesor + 1G of DDR PC3200 RAM

I am using TMPGenc Xpress 3.0

I am trying to convert the anime (.avi) to .mpn2 so I can burn onto DVD.

The dvd settings I use for this APPZ

checked off all filters except cropping
chose to deinterlace all the time
    set aspect ratio to 16:9

to convert a 30 min episode it takes 8 hrs....but if you can leave setting as default and it should take about 2-4 hours...hope the info helps
