1. Could someine please tell me what audio/video format Pinnacle and Nero uses when I capture using 'DV' as a capture source?
Is the video AVI, Type 1, Type 2.
If the video is an 'AVI'file, why does it show up with a 'Media'extension instead of showing 'AVI'?
Is the audio captured as a Wav, PCM, AC3 etc, etc, etc-I'm pulling my hair out because of the different terminologies used. Could someone explain each one, and what their pros and cons are?
My main interest is the best video/audio as possible for playing back music videos.
Thanks,
Bruce

2. If the source is DV, which would likely be either a DV camcorder or an analog-DV converter transferred via firewire, then the format of your video on the computer is still DV, and that's the only option. Even though Windows will save it as an AVI file, that's just the packaging for your DV.

That is correct. I constantly remind folks on this forum that AVI is a wrapper that contains Audio (that's the 'A') and Video (that's the 'V') data that's Interleaved (that's the 'I'). The video can be DV, MPEG, DIVX, etc., etc.

Also, it's really the transfer program (like WinDV or DVIO) that determines the final file type.

For a good DV explanation, take a look at the 'Glossary' to the left:[/url]https://www.videohelp.com/glossary?D#DVhttp://

The audio is probably PCM. You would convert this to AC3 or MPE...">TMPGEnc.
