I have a DVD-RW with VOBs that I recorded using a standalone dvd recorder from my miniDV camcorder. I am using DVD Decrypter to rip to hard drive.

In this instance, do I change any of the default settings? There's so many options I'm overwhelmed.

    Thanks.

  2. Why don't you just copy the VIDEO_TS dir to your HD with Win Explorer then? Your standalone didn't encrypt the disc.

    Hello,
Use a ripper, it's generally faster. If you want an easier ripper use dvdshrink and select "FULL BACKUP" (since it's a recorded disc its 4.7gb or less, no compression needed). This will dump all the vobs to the harddrive.

P.S. For decryptor use file mode, select all, then rip.

    Hello,
Me again. What type of dv camera is it? You may be able to get a firewire card to transfer the movie via an avi file. Just a thought.

I do have a firewire card, but it's in a slow 1GHz pc. So I use the dvd recorder to capture and encode in realtime.

Just curious, why is a ripper generally faster than a straight transfer of the VIDEO_TS folder?

    Hello,
I don't know if it "techincally" is. But my experience was really slow. I think it didn't even finish copying. It might be that windows explorer sometimes has trouble with such large files (vobs can be a gig or more). Than again this was using Windows 2000 and a AMD 850mhz computer, newer ones might not have any issue with it. Just my experience.
