    I have been using Verbatim 2.4x and 4x DVD+R media for months with no coasters on Sony DRU-510A with 1.1a firmware.

    I tried Verbatim 4x DVD-R with the media code MCC 01RG20. Oddly enough, out of eight discs three were coasters. I ran the Sony drive check program using one of the -R blanks and the drive passed.

    I concluded the problem was the media because I eliminated the drive and have no problems with +R discs. Anyone else having problems like this?

    There have been many reports here, and many to my e-mail about MCC and SONY drives. The problems appear to be almost exclusive to the SONY drives. Firmware issues are likely.

    I have had no problems with DVD+R: RITEK-R01-01 (2.4x) and RICOHJPN-R01-02 (4x). Can you recommend any DVD-R media that would work as well?
