  1. Just got a burner a month ago and have boughten 4 50 packs of G04's in the purple label without a problem. Just ordered 100 more from Meritline for $44 without one problem. Sounds like great media to me.

Ohh and is there a way to find out if you burned a coaster without watching the movie on it?

  4. I recently purchased the "Ridata" branded G04's from Newegg.com which has the purple wrapper and the top of the discs have an arrow with the Ridata label. The quality of those discs are aweful. There are dye discolorations and after burning a DVD you can see irregular burn patterns on the disc. The playback on those discs are horrible. Prior to this, I've always purchased unbranded Ritek G-04's (silver or matte finish) and have never had a coaster. Looks like the ridata branded discs are messing up about 30-40% of the time.

I've ordered more unbranded G04's and hope the quality is much better.

Something that we should log as we post our complaints about the Ritek G04 media:

Type : Branded, shiny, Matte or inkjet Top?

Packaging: Purple wrapper spindle, non-retail (oem) wrapped cakebox or red ridata shrinkwrap?

Disc number (serial #?) located on inner ring in tiny lettering (example: d2-193adhdu3,etc.)

Where did the disc fail? At startup (rejected before it burns anything), at 640mb mark (a lot fail at transition from 4x to 6x on hacked firmwares) or later on (some report failure at around 75% mark, believed to be where drive changes from 6x to 8x on hacked FW's)

What drive are u using to burn? Hacked firmware?

Where did u purchase it from? So I can stay the HELL away from them

    In my case:
    -Matte top
    -Red riData shrinkwrap
-i have had a lot of failures with discs starting with "D2" on inner ring.
-Many fail at startup and it won't matter what speed I select. Most burn up to 641.56mb and then fail/reject.
-Using a Pioneer 107d with hacked fw (burned 4x g04 media at 8x, hundreds of times with almost perfect results before this).
-Purchased at NewEgg.com (also noticed NewEgg no longer carries those g04 dvd-r in the red shrinkwrap...only dvd+r)

Maybe I'm stupid for asking for this info, but maybe we can find a pattern or some solutions this way? For example, someone suggested trying selecting just 6x speed (instead of "Max") for some matte-tops I was having trouble with and that got me throught that spindle (started with J3). Any little info helps...maybe?

  6. Just my 2 cents, I have a Sony DRU-510A.

Last friday I received 100 DVD-R Ritek G04 shiny silver/purple from the Supermediastore, I have burnt 11 discs so far at 4x and not one coaster yet. That is a much better record than I had with the MCC Verbatim DVD-R in which almost half the discs were coasters.

I have a Pana. e55 stand alone, I have been using about 100 Ridata from Supermediastore, so far, with not one problem. Right now, I am using a bundle of 50 G04 #DVD01X0141 shiny top.
In the past I had few problems with Memorex, and none with Maxell.

I'll have to add my name to the list of those disappointed in Ritek G04s. I bought 50 of these from NewEgg a few months ago and I'm getting way too many coasters (about 10 out of the first 25) ... with errors verified by Nero's CDSpeed. I was burning at about the DVD limit (4.3GB) so I cut my MemoriesOnTV slide show in half but Nero's CDSpeed still showed some solid blocks of errors even with only about 2.2GB of data! I couldn't see anything in the dye at the outer areas so I switched my slide show to Ulead's PictureShow 2 which still gave me pixelation, lockups, and multiple errors at the end! So I've used 2 different programs with a total of 3 different burn programs .... (MemoriesOnTV with the default, MemoriesOnTV with Nero, and Ulead's default burn engine in PictureShow2). I've also tried 2 different burners .... LiteON and Pioneer's A05 in 2 different systems I have. I have a slide show of 1,550 pictures from an Alaskan Vacation that I wanted on just 2 DVDs. Unfortunately unless my next order of DVDs (Taiyo Yuden) are better I'll end up putting the slide show on 4 DVD's .... not good. I'm thinking I should have bought the more expensive DVDs from the start. We'll see.

That may be true for most but I had recently bought Prodiscs (MCC Code) and they were 10x worse than princos.
I had been looking for a while now and I finally found some Ritek Ridata branded G04 at allmediaoutlet and not knowing if other vendors would stock them again, I bought 200 just to be safe.

    YAY!

Kinda blows that I'm gonna have to pay for shipping, since they are only worth 26 bucks brand new, but whatever. I guess it's better then losing my money completely.
Use media rate, it will ease the pain.
How do you get media rate? I checked the USPS website and did not see anything on media rates?

    Thanks

It's been about 3 months since I started using Ritek Ridata Branded G04 DVD-R and I still don't have problems with them, not a single. Ritek is the best affordable media in my opinion.

I just returned a 100 pack of DVDs today (ordered 8x Riteks, media code indicated fake Taiyo Yudens). It really irks me that we have to pay shipping when you receive questionable or incorrect media. You would think they would compensate you for the shipping in order to keep the customer satisfied. I've asked for a refund of the shipping price, probably won't hold my breath...
