Tried them - they suck major time!

Don't be fooled by their big selection - they don't have most of what's listed on their site...and keep you waiting months before they special order your selections.
Took me less than a week to special order those same titles myself to buy since none of the online rental outlets carry them.

DVDBarn.com is another online rental outlet to avoid - they don't carry 60% of the titles listed on their site.

As for Blockbuster, they were already online as www.filmcaddy.com

Members of Filmcaddy got automatically switched over to Blockbuster and given some credit towards free rentals.

Blockbuster has a decent selection of harder to find titles (the ones no one else carries) and they actually have what they list on the site.

So far, I'm satisfied - they are a bit quicker than Netflix and Walmart in getting DVDs shipped out.

  2. The thing with online rental services is your location. I've been a part of Netflix and Wal-Mart. Although Netflix is more expensive, my hat goes to them. I live only an hour and a half from my nearest dist. center (Lansing, MI), whereas my Wal-Mart DVDs would ship from Illinois. Most times, Netflix would receive and send my new DVD the same day. Not always, but it didn't bother me much. Wal-Mart has 4 out for the same price as Netflix's 3, but I still got more with Netflix. Maybe I'll try Wal-Mart again sometime - I read somewhere that they have plans to open a lot of new dist. centers, which I hope is true. I'm probably gonna sign up for BlockBuster's now, and see how it goes.

  3. how do you find BB distribution ports?

I was almost ready to go, but held back because I wanted to know how long it'll take. Guess that's what the 4 week trial is for

usually takes 3 days for Netflix...and 4 days for Walmart (and sometimes longer)

2 days from the day they say they sent them, or from the day you sent them back?
Nothing can stop me now, 'cause I don't care anymore.

This is a great time to try it out cause there isn't much to watch.

Today BB isn't even up online.

That's a pretty fast turnaround. I get about 2 days each way with Netflix.

  11. I just got my first BlockBuster DVD today. They do have a dist. center in Lansing, which as I mentioned above, Netflix does and Wal-Mart doesn't. I can assume that BB has more centers than WalMart does. I could be wrong. Aah, well, I get my DVDs in a day.

    According to
    http://www.showbizdata.com/contacts/picknews.cfm/35841/BLOCKBUSTER_GETS_SET_TO_LAUNCH_ONLINE_SERVICE

Netflix has 25, and BB has 20, though I couldn't find a list for BB.

BTW If I put a movie in my mailbox on Monday, they have it on Tuesday and normally send a new on out that same day. I receive the new movie quite often on Wedsday. (this is ture about 80% of the time.)
It's good to know I'm not the only one enjoying the maximum benefits from NetFlix. But you really need to test NetFlix out. If your lucky enough to live close to a NetFlix warehouse, you can take advantage of quick movies. On average, I get around 15 to 18 DVD's a month as well. Otherwise, it sucks.

'Sucks' seems pretty harsh. Even if you're not AS close to a distro, and only get say 10 rentals a month, that's still only $2.20 each + tax; not a bad rate for such a selection and never really having to leave the house if you don't want to (give the returns directly to your mail carrier).

  14. PLus 4 weeks free, also 2 instore rentals per month. You get the coupons on your ACCOUNT page at BB & print those out.

  15. Actually, if you get more than five DVDs a month, you're still getting a good deal. I read in an article that Netflix actually loses money on postage if you rent more than five in a month. However, I wonder how they calculate that? I have a feeling that the calculate a high rental commission (or however much they get profit from the rental). My guess is that they get the shipping cheap, probably less than the stamp rate, since they're in such bulk. Therefore, if you rent 15 DVDs in a month, Netflix may be only paying 5 bucks in shipping. But I can't say for sure, since it'd be impossible to find an exact breakdown of all their costs.
