hi, I have a desktop pc with a dvd writer, and I also have an Ibook, with a combo drive, no dvd-r, just cd-r/dvd, well, when I'm ripping a dvd with decrypter on the pc sometimes it tells me there was an error and some file could not be read or something like that, and I have to clean the disk, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, well whenever I can't rip a file on the pc I do it on the Imac, no need for decryptor or anything, just drag and drop, then I copy the file to my ipod and transfer it to the pc, (i tried to burn it on cdrs but the pc coudn't read those cdrs), what I wanna know is why the file could be read on the mac and not on the pc? is it the dvd-rom or something else that has to do with windows?
Thanxs

Hello,
It's not WINDOWS thats for sure. I've ripped tons in windows 98 and 2000 without problems. The disc probably just needs to be cleaned better.

P.S. Don't knock WINDOWS, it's just fine thank you.Donatello - The Shredder? Michelangelo - Maybe all that hardware is for making coleslaw? -
DVD-ROMS are not created equal. Some read anything others can be very picky about reading thru errors. I would switch to a Pioneer or Liteon.

i would switch to a PC
i've found that just about everything is easier on a PC. ripping on my friend's mac is such a pain in the ass for him that he does his backups on my PC. of course, he's also an idiot, and beats himself every night for spending 2000 dollars on an IBook, what he believes to essentially be "a f***ing doorstop."
clean your disc, maybe swap your drive.
also, i think mac has its own annoying file format for floppys/CDroms. yeah, it's annoying, eh? -
Yes it is annoying the mac, i hate them, you can't do anything on them, but it looks cool, :P

its probably just becaue your "mac" friend has no clue what he's doing
i find it terribly easy to do everything on a mac
so much so that ive added my pc's to the pile of kindling for my fire.
as for formats, sure, but i can say the same thing about windows using strange formats, so its just a two sided coin
but if you know what you are doing, you can always set disks to hybrid formats and UDF mode for dvd is universal so there aint no way to screw that up
i imagine its just common ignorance towards things that are different -
Yeah but it's still pretty funny watching them preen from atop their fencepost.

mirwais,
i am inclined to agree with wulf109 here... depending on the specific computer, it all depends on the actual burner that you are using. Macs, i believe (correct me if im wrong, someone who knows) tend to use Pioneer CD/DVD drives, which can be VERY hit or miss (i've heard numerous accounts of Apple owners having to take back their Macs and paying enormous fees if they dont have applecare to have their drives replaced). Your PC could be using anything.
Also, it may be a matter of the type/brand of media. Some drives like certain brands better, becuase of the particular dye used, etc. Pay attention to the speed at which you're burning as well. There are various variables involved.
So yeah, its most likely not a "mac is better" issue.
