  1. I read through the faq and tried using TMPGEnc but it froze on me.
If you have a fix for this I'd like to know.

Is there an avs file that someone has that will help me split an mpg source into two mpg files? Or would I need to go back and split the avi file into two? If so do you you have an avs file that does this?

    TIA.

When using Tmpgenc MPEG tools to split Mpeg files, seeking though the file may appear to freeze. During this "freezing" period, CPU utilization will be high and the disk led will be flickering (or constantly on).

If this is the case, then Tmpgenc is not frozen. It just needs to go through the video frame by frame because the syntax of the MPEG file is such that it cannot seek directly to a frame.

Trying to playback the video with Windows media player should cause the same symptoms when seeking to the middle of the movie.

You either wait (which is not always easy) or forget about this video.
One option is to use Re-Stream to process the video (if it is demultiplexed video only) and have ReStream reset GOP headers.

Second option, if you have the AVI source files, is to split the AVIs (use VirtualDUB and direct stream copy - should be a few minutes) and re-encode to MPEG.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know.

  3. I fyou're talking about chopping MPEG-2 or MPEG-1 video files into different smaller MPEG-2 or MPEG-1 files, only 2 apps in existence will do that without the need for re-encoding the files: M2 Edit Pro and Womble Mpeg VCR. Both work extremely well. If you're talking about demultiplexing, TMPGenc may have trouble with certain ac3 files. In t hat case use the demultiplexing fucntion in Womble Mpeg VCR.

I haven't used it, but their Simple File Joiner works great for MPG's

  5. Sasi.
The CPU Usage is less than 1% and there is no disk activity.

I do have VirtualDUB and its scripting language help file (online).
I do have the original AVI file.
I don't however know the scripting laguage well.
I simply wish to read one file and produce two avi files.
(I wish I could read in mpg 2 files but I don't know if I can.)
(I also have directX and GraphEdit... for what its worth...)

    So:

    VirtualDub.Open("C:\temp\big.avi", 1)
    VirtualDub.SetMode(0)
    VirtualDub.SaveSegmentedAVI("C:\temp\little.avi",F ileSizeInMegaBytes)

I've tried this script and it fails on line 1...
Do I have to close the streams?
This will produce little1.avi and little2.avi?

    Maybe AVISynth might also help?
