Hi, I sometimes use DVD clone2 or intervideo dvd copy to back up my Hindi movies. As you all know they're mostly musical. Anyway, the copies are excellent when it's just dialog , but fuzzy during songs. Is there a reason for that?? How can I rectify the situation?? Thanks in advance

The audio is fine, but the video during the music part of the movie is fuzzy... Once the music is done , it plays perfect again.

DVD Clone 2 and Intervideo DVD Copy aren't exactly the pinnacle of excellence in terms of backup programs.

Try DVD Shrink. What you are describing is a symptom of your transcoder doing something called "CBR" or "Constant Bit Rate". In this, it decides that you have exactly X bits per second to devote to signal, period. Now, during busy scenes (or scenes where there's a lot of audio data) clearly you will experience a loss in visual quality since there's less bits to go around for the video. In boring slow scenes (and quiet ones) you'll get great quality.

So try DVD Shrink, and use "Deep Analysis". You'll be surprised, I think.

  7. Infiniti2004, "Deep Analysis" is what happens when you click on the "Analysis" button.
It is also selectable in the "Backup!" window.
What it does is enable DVD Shrink to apply compression in a more efficient way, yelding better quality for your backups.

DVD Shrink is fairly straight forward to use.
I suggest you look at the guides available here and at DVDShrink.info.

  9. You're welcome.

Keep in mind using deep analysis might not make a noticeable difference, in terms of quality of backups, when the compression used is less than 10% or thereabout ("Ratio" > 90%).
It will depend highly on the quality/bitrate of the original title and your viewing equipment.

I'd still suggest you use it whenever possible.
Switching DVD Shrink to "Low-priority" - in the "Edit >> Preferences" menu - will enable you to use your PC fairly smoothly while the analysis is done in the background.

So now that I am using dvdshrink to backup, what do you suggest I use to write to dvdr?

  11. I'd suggest you choose for DVD Shrink to output as an ISO image file ("Backup!" >> "Target Device" >> "ISO Disc Image"), and burn with DVD Decrypter.
This can be done either automatically with DVD Shrink, or manually using DVD Decypter "Mode >> ISO >> Write".

I either use DVD Decrypter (for ISOs) or CopyToDVD (for raw VIDEO_TS directories). But lately I mostly convert to ISO, because this spindle of 100 HP DVD+R's I got are all CMC, so I like to verify (which is easier in Decrypter).

No need for AnyDVD - DVD Shrink can decrypt on its own.
