Just wondering if there is a way to put an activation code at the start of my dvd - something that could be keyed in on screen with a remote keypad that would then unlock the product once and for all.

Anybody given something like this any thought?

What exactly are you trying to do? If you mean "activation code" as in "enter the secret number to see the outtakes from the movie" then it's possible with some higher-end authoring apps. You said "unlock the product" though, which makes me think that you want to sell dvd's that will be unwatchable until they buy a registration number from you. That won't work at all. They'd have to enter the key each and every time they watched the video which would annoy the hell out of anyone who'd paid money for it. After about the sixth time they entered the key they'd go to their PC, rip the video tracks and discard the authoring and your key scheme, and promptly put your movie up on Bittorrent just out of spite.

Nothing ambiguous here. Looks like he's looking for a new type of DVD copy protection

What are these people smoking when they think they think they can copy-protect dvds?

If the movie industry and gaming industry can't do it, what makes you think you can?

    Put the crack pipe down

If it can be played, it can be copied.
