I am having problems with PowerDVD 4 and with Windows Media Player. With DVDs and wmv files I get sound but no picture. The PowerDVD does produce a picture but it is obscured by rectangles of frozen screen.

Medion Power Cinema works OK. Weird or what?

    Hello,
I guess you have codec problems. If your dvds will play in one player but not another somethings not talking with the codecs properly (a guess only).

You could reinstall powerdvd and see if that clears it up. Or try a update from powerdvds website. Also windows media player only plays dvds if you have the proper plugin installed (ie you paid for the download).

Good luck. Keep trying different things untill it works. But if you got one player to work stick with it.

I have reinstalled PowerDVD but no joy. I suspect it is a codec problem. Does anyone know how to sort it out?

I don't think that is quite true - I have not paid a cent for any plugins and my DVDs play fine in WMP9.

You have already tried reinstalling PowerDVD. Try reinstalling Windows Media Player. If this fails then perhaps you need to look at the mother of all codec fixes - a clean install of windows.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    Hello,
jimmalenko - I thought only the "true" dvd plugin worked. I guess I didn't go to the right download page Anyway, I use powerdvd and I don't have problems with it so I'm not worried. I hope he gets his problem fixed.

Your right, a clean install of windows is the last resort to fix problems

    When in doubt, reboot.

As a very last resort, reformat.
    If in doubt, Google it.
