  1. I'm looking at purchasing a DVD printer. I've read alot of comments about the Epson R200 and R300. Is this one of the best (in terms of quality for the price) DVD printers around. Looking for the best bang for the buck.

Both are really good. I have the R300, but I heard the R200 is just as good. It just dosen't have the memory card readers and extra garbage the R300 has. If all you want to print is outstanding DVDs just go w/ the R200

You don't mention your location, so I don't know whether this is available to you, but the Canon i865 is fantastic IMO.
    If in doubt, Google it.

I have an Epson PS900 that I use to use for all DVD disc printing, but since I got a R200 which has now become my primary DVD disc printer. Reason, alignement. Its much easier with the R200 vs the 900. Almost perfect alignement every time with the R200 after calibration, not like the 900 which was dependent on user's ability to aligne the tray everytime (sometimes hit and miss) where the R200 uses just 2 arrows and is almost perfect every time. The color put down by the R200 seems to be more vivid as compared to the 900 with default settings also. The R200 are now very cheap to get. I got one at Best Buy Canada for $99 cdn (sale). The refills cost more then the printer. Only probm with the R200 vs the 900 is when I leave the printers on and not used for a long time, the R200 will streak on the first print but if I turn it off when not in use the 1st print looks fine when its powered on, but this will use more ink since it does head cleaning on power on (I think?). Never had this probm with the 900 or my HP Photo 1100 printer.

RTFM Epson user manual! Epson suggests turning the printer off when not in use for longer than several hours!

    What's a manual.....

BTW my computers are on 24/7 so the printers tend to stay on also... 8)

I purchased a Refurbed Epson R300 off Ebay, which includes 1 year full MFG. warranty. I paid with Shipping $91.37. The printer came with everything except the software CD...The drivers and features I needed were easily downloadable.

Included in the purchase was 3 sets of ink cartridges. I have printed 275 discs with this printer, I have purchased 1000 blank Ritek G04 DVD-R 4x to use in my Lite-On LDW-411s, Which By the way is a kick ass DVD burner!

If your looking for a good reliable DVD printer, Look no further than the Epson R300. The image quality is fantastic, the RITEK Print surface is outstanding.

Don't wait, Buy this printer... Worth every penny, whether you buy it refurbed or retail.

I want to personally thank all the members here at DVDRHELP, because it was your posts about the EPSON that made my mind up about purchasing this Unit.

Also your reviews of the Lite-On burner was another reason I purchased that, 9 months ago.. 2700 burns and only 1 coaster (power failure) Later, and it is still going strong.

Not the best idea for the Epson printers, you might want to consider a change of policy for them.

  10. Whoa!, I was just going to answer about the Epson R300/R200. I am going to buy one tomorrow and was thinking the same about all that crap the R300 has (if, like me, you have absolutely NO intention to print directly from the digital camera) and I was going to get the R200 but with a little fear of the results. Now I'm more than sure that it will do what it's supposed to do.

    Thanks guys

  11. I got the R200 about last week, and the result of the DVD being printed are excellent. I printed about 6 DVDs so far, but one bad thing is the ink goes down quite fast. I already could see it going down a lil bit...

I printed over 100 DVD's before i even used 1/2 the ink in the 1st set of cartridges.

If your going thru Ink fast you must be printing covers too.

Printing on DVD alone, this printer does not use a lot of ink (r300) i cannot speak for the R200.

  13. Printed over 100 discs with Epson R200 with best result.
Buy.com has it at $89.99 with free shipping. You can do a search to get a better price.

  14. The ink in the first set of cartridges goes fast because it has to fill the print heads, later cartridges will last longer (or at least seem too).
BTW, I have been using some third-party ink cartridges by Print-Rite that are working as well as the Epson. I have run a couple of unscientific tests for fading and they were equal in fading. I placed the same print (one with Epson ink one with Print Rite ink) in the backseat of my car for a week. Every day was sunny and with the windows up the temperature gets to about 140 F in the car. They both faded slightly, but equally.

The savings is about $4. per cartridge. I will now watch for any possible jet clogging (which was, and is, my main concern).
If it works, don't fix it.

I've been using my R200 for several months now, and have printed hundreds and hundreds of dvds with it. Works like a champ. I use 3rd party cartridges (about $5 each) and they last a long time. With the high resolution and nice quality produced, you can't beat the price.
