I have an ATi TV Wonder, since version 8.1 of the ATi Multimedia Center, ATi has crippled the capture ability of ALL hardward that use that program, rendering the maximum capture resolution to 704x240.
I'm just trying to find a simple, idiot proof piece of software that'll allow me to capture BOTH fields. (ATi's brilliant 'new' method of deinterlacing is to just drop a whole damn field. Hence the low vertical resolution) All I want is to capture the interlaced video from my VCR at 720x480 (704x480 will do as well) for the purposes to copying home videos to VHS for the sake of postarity.
I used to use VirtualDub, which I imagine many of you would recomend. Currently, Vdub iforms me that it just can SET the resolution that high with my hardware.
I was using Dscaler, untill I realized it couldn't capture. However, it could get the full scale image from my hardware, meaning it's not a hardware limitation at all, just that the software has been instructed not to go that high. I simply want to capture to HufYUV so I can run it threw my DVD authoring tools and move on.
Advice? :/

Give a try to MainConcept MPEG encoder. It also has a capture capability that (if it works with your card properly) will amaze you. You can try a demo version. Download from the mainconcept site.
The more I learn, the more I come to realize how little it is I know. -
Not positive but I think it's the driver that is limiting your resolution not the software. Try here http://btwincap.sourceforge.net/
