  1. I am wondering if there is a easy way to join 2 avi files and compressing it down to fit on 1 cd.

    for example i have file1.avi and file2.avi which are both about 700mgs and i want to join and compress it to file.avi about 700mgs

    before i used drdivx to do this and it worked great but it crashes on alot of files.. is there any way to use virtualdub with like xvid codec to compress it ? can someone show me how.. ?

    Thanks

    open both files with virtualdub, file->open the first avi and then file->append avi the other avi.
    select under video->full compression
    select under video->compression and choose the xvid codec, set the bitrate(leave all other settings to default).
    select under audio->direct stream copy
    last file->save avi.

    you can calculate the bitrate with www.videohelp.com/calc or use any video bitrate calculator(check our tools section). you take the total time of both avis, set the output size to one cd(700MB) and you get the bitrate to use in virtualdub.

    if virtualdub complains about vbr audio use virtualdub-mpeg2

  3. first of all thanks so much for your reply i am trying to reencode it via your method.

    i have 2 additional questions..

    first what would be the difference if i did one pass verses 2 pass ? i know that in drdivx it always did 2 passes.. does it make a big difference ?

    second is what if i want to downgrade the bitrate for the audio ? lets say that the original avi's are set to 448kbit/sec but lets say i want to lower it to about 192 or 128kbit/sec would that increase the bitrate for the video ? and would it still be a one step process or would i have to redo the audio then first then the video ?

    Thanks again
