Simplest way is to use Quicktime Pro which allows you to export .MOV files as .AVI with a choice or parameters. This is the best way I have found and produces great results.
You can also use Adobe Premier and create a project, open the .MOV file and move it to the timeline. Then export in your choice or format. I have had trouble in the past with this method. Be very careful of audio and colours as I have had poor results sometimes. -
now, if you use quicktime pro to export it as an avi file, will it have sound? I am trying to convert the new star wars trailer but I keep having problems! NO SOUND! and Yes I know some mov. files are protected

I have converted many *.MOV files using Quicktime Pro and always got sound. The problems with the Star Wars trailer must be related to copy protection.
