  1. Well, I had lots of problems playing some avi videos, so I uninstalles all my codecs and started from scratch. I installed ffdshow, xvid1.01 and AC3 filter. It solved my avi problems (FINALLY), BUT...

I no longer can play mpeg files.

Strange thing is: AVIcodec tells me I should be able to do it:

    Video : 15.50 KB, 0 Kbps, 29.970 fps, 352*240 (4:3), MPG1 = MPEG 1 (VCD), Supported

    Audio : 70 MB, 224 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0], Supported

But BSPlayer tells me "CANT OPEN FILE" and WMP tells me "Class not registered".

So... what's happening? And what codecs I'm missing? I'm afraid if I start installing new codecs, my old problems with the AVI files will be back, so... what's to do?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hello,
Is the file a .dat? It might have problems with some of your players. Try zoom player.

P.S. Windows media player will play mpeg files.

  3. No, it's a .mpg file.

Oh, and Zoom Player didn't work either. It says it ocurred an error while creating filters.

Errrrrr......according to the info on the file...YOU HAVE NO VIDEO AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (just 15k less than one frame....)...the good news is you have some audio...........but unless you demux it, it will run only as long as the video file.....(ie..IT WILL NOT PLAY).

  6. Well, this time I DO have the video but can't play the damn file anyway.

Recaping: it's a .mpg file. It doesn't play anywhere (WMD, BSPlayer, Zoom...), although AVICodec tells me I should be able to do it:

    File : 112 MB (145 MB), length 0:07:37, MPG, 1 audio stream(s), quality 88 %

    Video : 133 MB, 2450 Kbps, 29.970 fps, resolution 480*480 (16:9), MPG2 = MPEG 2 (SVCD/DVD), Supported

    Audio : 12.20 MB, 224 Kbps, 44100 Hz, 2 channels, 0x51 = Mpeg-1 audio Layer 2 [0xc0], Supported

So... what's going on? Why can't I play the file? In BSPlayer I get a "CANT OPEN FILE"; in Zoom (ERROR CREATING FILTER) and WMD (CLASS NOT REGISTERED).

    Help, please?

  7. I found that my messing up with DXMan f*cked up with my MPG-2 Decoders. So I uninstalled them and reinstalled aftewards.

And everything went back to normal!

By the way, I got rid of DXMan - it's too dangerous for dumbasses like myself.

Install a mpeg2 codec, and you should be fine.

Power DVD, Windvd offer free demos, and elecard is a free playback solution.
