I just don't know why, but my DVDtoDivX convertions work much better in DivX 5.05 version than the 5.1 and 5.2 ones.
I've just compared them and this older version works much better. It's not possible. I put the same parameters and it just work horribly and much slowly in the earlier versions.
Does anybody know why it happens.
I have an Athlon TB 1.2 with 512MB DDR. It's not the best machine, but it's enough for coding a movie in a few hours.

  2. I totally gave up on anything past DivX 5.05 quite a while ago.

    DivX v5.05 is still around.......

What version do you use nowadays?
Did you see any difference between 5.1> and 5.0.5 in quality?

  4. This is the only version of DivX i can tolerate.

I currently use XviD for encoding, and this DivX v5.05 for decoding DivX and XviD sources in TMPGEnc. I just change the FourCC of the file to DIVX and open without any of the problems that others seem to have.

DivX just pissed me off one time too many!

    Hi, gastorgrab.
I tried for the first time the Xvid codec for encoding (or decoding, I don't know the difference between these terms, could you explain? ) following the steps found in Doom9.org (it's almost the same for Divx), but I had a problem with the final filesize in Gordian Knot. It was supposed to be a 700MB file, but it was 1800MB instead...
Do you have any tips for solving my problem?
    Thanks for reading.

Basically... You are "Encoding" if you are making a XVID, you are "Decoding" if you are watching or converting one...

    Oh, makes sense now.

    In my opinion, it's faster.

    I solved the problem myself.
I've just reinstalled the program and the GK Codec Pack.
By the way, Xvid is much better than Divx. Now I see that.
