    At what compresson rate and resolution would I get a 'broadcast' quality video (NTSC)

    I don't know about Divx because it not used in professional broadcasting, but for mpeg-2, 704x480 at 8Mb/sec CBR and higher is used for server recorded video, and is used for network distribution over satellite. For editing, much higher bit rate is used, like 30Mb/sec.
