It seems I'm having the opposite problem of everyone that has Canopus hardware. It seems my audio output levels are too high.
I'm transferring LD from my trusty old Pioneer CLD-990 into the ADVC-50 and grabbing the DV stream with Scenalyzer Live. The Scenalyzer Live input audio level bars are peaking out on heavy action scenes (with explosions and other such things) and the resulting audio is breaking up in these areas (the wonderful static sound of crackling). The audio levels are fine in the source material.
Is there anything that can be done short of buying an external mixer to give the mix some negative gain before the audio hits the ADVC-50?
Thanks

Found a solution to my own problem. I busted out an old 10 band EQ that was collecting dust. I knew I'd have a use for it some day.
I had to adjust to whole spectrum to -6 db and the 8k and 16k bands down to about -9 db.
I don't know if Canopus boosted the audio on the newer ADVC-50s or my LD player just has high output levels. The Canopus seems fine with TV captures from cable, so I'll just assume that the old Pioneer LD just has a high output level.
