First off, if I'm posting in the wrong place, please let me know.

Ok, I was having a problem when converting my .avi files to DVD (using Ulead DVD Movie Factory 2). Though my .avis are fine, the resulting DVD would be jumpy when there was motion - especially if the camera was moving. Anyway, - and I had this problem before, and fixed it this way as well - by uninstalling all my video software, and then reinstalling, my DVDs are smooth as can be.

    My question - why?

    Hello,
My guess would be some kind of codec conflict. I've read many times on this site of codec problems. Reinstalling them seems to solve many problems. I've had the problems sometimes. Reloading software (and especially reinstaling Windows) helps. I guess it has to do with messed up reading by the software. Go figure.

What you are describing sounds like incorrect field order. Don't know why uninstalling/reinstalling would fix unless somewhere in the process you reversed the settings. Have you checked to make sure your vid is interlacing properly?

  5. I'm currently having this problem with my friends wedding video.

It was captured onto standalone DVD-R from a video cassette then ripped to my PC where i encoded it to MPEG with FlaskMpeg. I then edited the footage in Vegas 5 and outputted to DVD compliant MPEG then used DVD arcitect to make the dvd.

    few things now

The MPEG file plays perfect no jumping or strange blurring when the camera moves.

The authored DVD which is on my harddrive works great in WINDVD

The burnt DVD plays but with all the jumping and motin blur when the camera moves.

this makes me wonder is it the disc the player or like you guys suggest a codec confliction. but that would not explain the reason why the MPG and DVD on the HD play ok.

any more info on this phenomenon would be great as i want to give them the DVD as there wedding present.

Once you get the bugs worked out there's something else entirely different to think about... What format (+/-) are you burning on and will your friends DVD player (or computer) also play that format?

I had a similar problem to what your describing. Turns out it was a combination of things. 1. my video encoding program, moviestar, was no good and didn't render the video very good. 2. the video bitrate was too high for the dvd player to read and that was why the video was jittery. It played fine on the computer because the hard drive has 7200 rpms. You could try running your mpegs through a program like dvd patcher. You could then use TMPGENC for rendering new mpegs because it lets you change the bitrate. I would try a CBR bitrate from somewhere in the range of 5500 to 3500. I have even gone as low as 1800 for my 8mms and vhs, which don't have superb quality anyway. Hope this helps.
