Simple answer. If they can play it, they can copy it. You could encrypt it, but you would have to give out the encryption code. You could put it in a weird format, but you would have to supply the player. You could put a password on it, but you would have to give it out to play it. It may be possible, but it will be complex and then nobody will bother to play it in the first place.

This isnt even a topic meant for discussion..If the movie studios spend Billions a year on copy protection for dvds that gets slaughtered by anyone with a dvd burner, then its extremely unlikely you could do it.
Its a dog-eat-dog world out there, there is not one thing that hasnt been cracked.
You could give it a G-Rating, no one bothers with them anyway..WHY anyone pirated that garfield movie is beyond me. Groups probably just did it for site credits.

I think that what Aznmask was trying to say, was is there any basic
copy protection that he/she could apply to his/her disks - - to block those
that are casuals or newbie type people who never heard of Smartripper or
other DVD decripting (or copying) software.
.
I'm sure that Aznmask is not looking to compete to out-do the Billion
dollar market you knowhmm... Anyways :P

Adobe Encore offers the possibility o encrypt your DVD...which any program like smartripper will rip ...
If people make the effort to try to copy your DVD, chance is they will know how to rip it. My philosophy is do not encrypt and live with the copiers: they have their own conscience to take care of...

My advice is thus:
Once you're done ripping, shrinking and burning your Blockbuster or Netflix DVDs, offer a fair price to those interested. Instead of letting them borrow your "hard earned" copies just so they can get a free copy themselves, charge them about 70% the going rate, minus about $5 for compression quality loss.
Unless they're from China. Usually the copies run 50 cents to $2, so your competition is pretty fierce.
In other words, ENOUGH with this stupid question!Either drop your untrustworthy "friends", or learn to live with it. Unless the DVDs are your wedding videos, then it's alright to murder them in cold blood* for such a high offense.
