  1. Please forgive me if this has been addressed before. I ran a search and didn't find what I was looking for.

I have a movie that is spread over two ".dat" files. Let's call them "movie1.dat," and "movie2.dat."

For some reason they tried to open up into Graphic Converter. I've figured out that the way to watch them is with VLC.

I would like to know how to convert them into something that can be recognized by a conventional DVD player.

SVCD could work if need be, but I would prefer to be able to create one file out of the two and burn to DVD-R.

If anyone has any insite, or a link that explains how to do this, I would very much appreciate the help.

I am running Mac OS X 10.3.4 on a Quicksilver G4 with a Superdrive. I have Toast 6 Titanium, as well as a bunch of other programs, but I am not sure if they would be helpful or not.

Thanks in advance if you are able to help me.

  2. Wow... That is pretty neet how the forum automatically created a link for Toast. I've never seen that anywhere before.

  3. Am I really that blind? This wasn't there when I posted, was it?

I'll check out that topic. It doesn't appear to be Mac-centric, but I may learn something from it anyway.

    hi there,
your .dat files probably came from a vcd or svcd originally.
Try using VCDgearX to convert from dat>mpg.
you will probably end up with mpeg1 or 2 video files.
these can be converted to dvd compliant video by re-sampling the audio.
there are alot of tutorials and posts on that subject to help you.
    Good Luck -- sdm
