Trouble backing up Playstation PS2 Games!!!!

Hi all,

I'm having real trouble backing up my PS2 games. I've tried using Nero, DVD Decrypter & Alcohol 120% but no success as yet.

The media (DVD-R) I am using is fine for other purposes, although I have had trouble with other jobs - such as backing up a DVD with DVDX Copy Platinum (used to work fine but not now - haven't tried though since formatting drive - see below).

I have had several results, summarised as follows: -

1) Alcohol - tried several times. Each time I try to copy, after a random period of time, my PC screen just goes black although the power is still on. I can't retrieve the screen and the only way of getting it back is to power off/on at the back of the case as the power button on the front won't work. Result - discs not copied.

2) DVD Decrypter - have read several discs & transferred to my hard drive ready to copy to DVD-R. When trying to burn, essentially the same thing happens as does for Alcohol - black screen at random points. I have however completed 2 discs although when placed in my "modified" PS2, one locks up on the title screen of the game and the other goes all the way through to loading the game (having made desired selections/options for the game), but then sticks on "loading".

3) Nero - sorry, can't remember as by then my brain was all mush!!

Can anybody help me out? What am I doing wrong? Are there any PS2 back-up experts out there? Is there something wrong with my system? I have in the last day formatted my hard drive due to problems and have clean reinstalled all software.

Any help to this newbie would be appreciated as I'm losing heart about the whole DVD burning idea!

U can put 'ps2' in the search box, lots of topics.

First of all:

You did not say what media you are using.
You did not say what game you are using.

All I do is put the game in, use Nero, disk copy, thats all.... on dvd-r media with 2x max writing speed.

As HandyGuy said, it really easy to do.

I use Alcohol 120% make a image then I burn @ 4X, all games play perfect!!

1. are you tying to copy on the Fly?
2. are you having problem burning any other software or DVD's
3. What are your system Spec's

It sounds like you might have to figure out whats going on with your machine as to why it's shutting off first, other then that, its a simple process

As you can see, I suspect my drive is on the way out. I'm not trying to write "on the fly" & I am having trouble doing anything with the burner. It is now having problems reading before even attempting to burn!

Possibly the PSU may be faulty but I suspect it's the drive.
