  1. Sorry if this isnt in the right place but im trying to follow the rules/stickys. Basically I want to prep a 2 hour xvid ( video: 576X240 , 23.9** fps audio: 48000hz mp3 vbr. ) It is 2 hours of video and I want to split it on two dvds. Im planning to create 5 xvid clips out of the original 2 hour xvid clip . Each xvid clip will serve a different purpose , including 2 video menus , 2 main bodies plus 1 intro (all in xvid format) . After ive created these clips I will feed them into ulead moviefactory and they should convert fine.

First problem is mp3 vbr sound on the xvid , I cant chop it without skewing the sync with video. How do I get past this ? Demultiplex mp3 vbr then convert to wav?. After this I will have wav and xvid video , hopefully……. in sync. One I have wav and xvid video how do I chop it? Do I multiplex it first before I chop. Can you multiplex wav sound plus xvid video? Or do chop them separately.

Last but not least how do I keep the aspect ratio when cutting video in virtua dub? Ive noticed that some of the chops ive done have vertically elongated pictures.

  2. Best to avoid VBR mp3.. causes problems because it inherently doesn't work with AVI's file structure.

The author of VirtualDub has a rant somewhere on his webpage about this..

  3. YeAh thanks for the reply , but nearly all the xvids i get are mp3 vbr encoded . While i know the format isnt great, theres nothing i can do. So what i was really asking was how to fix it before choping then encoding to mpeg 2

I'm kind of guessing here, but if the existing Xvid is in one piece, I would demux the audio to WAV. You should then be able to feed the audio and video separately to TMPGEnc DVD Author. I would also do the split in TDA.

  5. okay , so how do i demux it , ive looked for a guide but havnt found one, maybe some could point me in the right direction. So what your saying is , it is possible to create *.mpeg2 files that can be used as menus in TDA? I really wanted to become proficient in virtua dub, for a job application in 2 months time . I wonder how not to lose aspect ratio while cutting avis in virtua dub

I think your best bet is to use VirtualDub and change the audio to Full Processing mode, compression to Uncompressed PCM (WAV). Then go File > Save as WAV.
    If in doubt, Google it.
