  1. I've been doing a bit of experiementing with AVI and MPEG capturing with my ATI AIW Pro 32mb card. I've just upgraded my Intel Celeron 500mhz PC from Win ME to Win XP. I've seen a big difference in performance from the card. (A big difference)

If people want the best quality from the ATI card, this is these are the best settings to create SVCD or VCD.

Download AVI_IO and the HuffyUV lossless codec.

This could be from PAL or NTSC

    640x480
25 or 29.97 fps (depending PAL or NTSC)
    44.1khz audio PCM
YUY2 (in right column of HuufyUV settings)

This gives great quality for encoding to VCD or SVCD.
    (No blocks at all)

I think the ATI software sucks for MPEG encoding (only for slower machines like mine). I can get upto 640x480 in I frammes, MPEG2 with any bitrate. This really sucks with quality going back down to VCD or SVCD.

I can't really use my technique for vids longer than 3 mins becasue i'm limited on disk space.

    Hope this helps

P.S. You really need 20GB plus spare to use this technique

  2. Hotmat4, is it better due to XP or due to AVI_IO/HuffyUV lossless codec ? It looks like you captured in AVI format. I am not quite familiar with AVI_IO/HuffyUV. I have the 733Mhz machine w/ 30G HDD, 256M RAM, but the MPEG1/VCD capture is still very blocky. I can not do any bit rate more than 1150k without frame drop. Thanks
