No, not only is a software problem, the media is made to restrict the burning of CSS encrypted material.

are u saying physically that there is something stoping it from being recorded ???? and that the only way i can record dvd to dvd is rip the info (via smartripper) and then burn it to the other dvd ?????

Yes, not only physical with media, with the DVD burning apps as well. The apps do not have a copy/make image function built into them. They will only author/burn from audio/video files that were made by some other app first.

i am askin all this for a friend cause he has a new recorder... so i dont have it at the house to expermiment... but also when i rip the movie with the smartripper ..... dont sr automatically remove the microvision or do i have to use another program to do that

No, you don't. Smartripper gives you the files ready to burn (if they fit on a 4,3 GB DVD-R/RW, of course).
