Gosh, this DVD backup stuff is hard.
That post is being reported for advocating/soliciting warez.

    lol, should they?

If I didn't know most of the people here and just about in most forums I ever visit, I'd think some people have dodgy attitudes

this is one of the biggest and vast DVD forums but what I find strange is that some other forums don't have as many 'controversial attitudes' in them :P

  5. Hey, these are both great programs, and both free. There is no cost issue here. They both have there uses.

DVD shrink can also start and burn directly to DVDDecrypter, so I'm not sure why it is said you need Nero. You can also create ISO's with it or just the video_ts folder files and use whatever to burn with. I've never set DVD Shrink to automatically start and burn using Nero, but I have with DVDDecryptor.

Sure DVDDecryptor is better for pure ripping purposes. How may movies though are DVD5 now? Most everything is DVD9, and is where DVD Shrink really comes in handy for someone wanting to make a quick back-up.

    Both programs are Fantastic!

The whole POINT of my contention in this thread is that DVD9 movies fit onto DL media, so you don't HAVE to shrink them...

I think the discussion got a little more diverse than your POINT, but I do see your POINT. Now you can just back-up all your movies on to DL discs, or just buy an additional copy of the movie at the same time as it would be cheaper.

Just kidding, I know your not wanting to do that. I couldn't figure out how to put the sarcasm things in either.

I think most of us did get your point, Gurm (I know I did).
The big majority of DVD9s will not NEED to be "shrunk" (whether by DVD Shrink or another program).
But can't you imagine circumstances in which some might not want to backup the original DVD as-is?

    For example:

    - Movie-only for those who do not want menus/extras (whether generally or on specific DVDs).
    - Full-Disc backups where some audio and/or subpictures streams have been removed, not to save space but to make it faster/easier to access a specific stream or switch from one stream to another.

Absolutely. I can EASILY come up with a half-dozen good reasons to reauthor, even if you have enough space.

But those are going to become, as DL media get cheaper, niche applications. Very specialized uses.

The number of people who find the menus so irritating that they can't hit "menu" and then "play" are a small minority.

  10. Well I guess we agree then.

The choice of tool depends mainly on the job.

P.S: is DVD Decrypter DL compatible?

Don't know. If it isn't, it will be very soon, I imagine.

It was the first to support dual layer burning

However it has a major problem regarding the layerbreak as I hear.
