  1. I have this old AT desktop case. I like it because it has (3) 5 1/4 , (2) 3 1/2 external bays and 4 internal bays. Is it worth it to buy a new PCU and taking a hacksaw to it to get a ATX MB to work in it?
I can't seem to find any desktop cases that have that many external bays. I like to use removeable HDDs.

Should I just $hit can it and start from scratch?
    I got a P4 1.6ghz laying around I'd like to use.

  2. Cases are so cheap these days it hardly seems worth it. Do you have to have a desktop rather than a midi tower.

i agree with craig. i've done mods before and they always end up less than hoped for. you also need the tools and experience to make it work. cheaper and better to use the right stuff. linked is my case...

if you don't mind large it's cheap enough. well built and sturdy, mine has a sliding, removable mb tray. just pull the tray, mount the mb, processor and ram then slide it back in. i run 7 drives in mine. the top four bays are very roomy. good luck.

Guess not...Just started looking at cases on the net. I thought about a home theater PC, but then I would have to buy a new video card.

    My extra parts laying around:
P1 166mhz (in my current desktop)
    P4 1.6ghz
2gig of various RAM (mostly older stuff (PC100 is the fastest))
    (2) 32mb PCI video cards
    (3) 10/100 3COM NICs
    (8) HDDs various sizes but nothing over 80gb nothing under 8gb
    (2) 2940AU SCSI cards
    (2) 16bit sound cards
    (2) internal Zip drives
    (1) Floppy
    (2) CDRW drives
    (1) DLT tape drive (external)
    (1) DDS4 tape drive (internal but hanging outside my current system)

lots of stuff. i like using scsi 10k drives. i have four in the top (long cable makes it easy) each with cooling fans. one boot for standard apps, one boot video apps only, other two for video.
