The short answer is probably NO, for the same reason you can't create a menu for your mp3 files. The DVD standard is very strict and narrow in its purpose - to play DVD films. Players that play other formats, such as DivX, mp3 or jpg files do so at a file system level. Unless your particular player has it's own api that you can code for, there is nothing you can do.

On a hardware Divx player, definitely not. If played on the pc it can be done by using the .asf container.

Ugh.. Why? That's so lame. Especially considering it only displays 11 characters of the file names...

For DVDs it is easy - there is a standard for menu structure and control and content format. For DivX there is no such thing. How each player chooses to do this is up to the manufacturer, and many still do no support it. To have the ability to have standardised menus as per DVD would require a great deal of work and agreement in developing standards for things like

    Compression levels
    Quantisation
    Audio standards
    Menu language and control
    File structures
    etc.

As most of the DivX players are not coming from mainstream manufacturers (yet), it is simpler to go with a file list.

Possible on PC-using auto.inf and a pseudo website on the disc with relative references for any number of vids/files.
Simple way of Menu for upto 14 vids/files- one can be an index.htm file-try
