Man Learns He's Dead, Thanks to Blind Ex-Wife

MOSCOW (Reuters) - A Russian taxi driver got a rude shock when he discovered his blind ex-wife, who thought he had died in an explosion, had him buried in a Moscow cemetery, a newspaper reported on Thursday.

Oleg Lunkov learned of his apparent death when he applied for a passport and was told he died in a bomb blast on Moscow's metro on February 6. His ex-wife thought he was on the train, but being blind, she got her mother to identify the remains.

"I thought, 'I hope they didn't bury me on my birthday'," Lunkov told the Moscow Times after visiting his grave in southeastern Moscow. "But it turns out they did."

The grave has been exhumed by police investigating his wife for possible fraud.

Lunkov's name still appears on prosecutors' official list of the 38 people who died in the explosion.

    That is weird.

  2. If that happened in the US it would take 3 years and 300 letters to convince the government that you were, in fact, still alive.

had that happen to me... my dad died on my 18th birthday, and one of the 3 big credit agencies has me listed as dying on the same day (probably since I am housepig jr.)

didn't find that out until I went to buy a house a few years later... and now that I think about it, I can't remember if I resolved it with them or not, so I might still be dead.

Minnesota? We get taxed into the grave here. I'm sure he gets his rebate check back made out to the "housepig foundation".

I think instead of trying to show the government I was alive I'd find a way to subsist off their radar. I wonder how many there are in this country that are doing this already. Police pull you over and give them a license with a little sticker that says "undead" next to your name. Yeah, I need to go get some more coffee.

nope. they tried to put a lien on my wages, they tried to get my mom to sign something that would have made her liable for his tax burden... same with the Virginia Dept. of Revenue.... they were real princes in our time of mourning.

I've heard some real horror stories about IRS liens put on property in error and it almost never gets straightened out. The IRS is an example of a govt. agency with just too much power. Scary how they can ruin your life with one action
