  1. There is a new version of TDA out that support dual layer. I'm just wondering if its worth upgrading to. The upgrade price is only $11 but I'm wondering if dual layer support is just for the burning engine or if it actually effects the authoring as well. I don't use it to burn so if the burn engine is all it effects its worthless to me. I can still author a bigger disc than normal and burn with a later version of nero. Of course I don't have a Dual Layer writer yet anyway but I eventually will.

It says that "Writing to DVD+R Double Layer" is the only difference between 1.5 and 1.6. It sounds like the burn-engine only.

That's correct - the burn engine (Dvdwriter.exe) is different between the two versions - 1.0.2.13 for new 1.6 vs 1.0.1.25 for latest update of 1.5.

As far as I can see, the only tiny difference in main prog is that 1.6 can show 8.5gb in the capacity bar. Other new features (like ability to choose highlight colour and menu item shadows, audio encoding options) seem to be the same in 1.5.26.73

As I don't use the writing tool and haven't got a D/L burner at the moment, I won't be going for 1.6 at the moment. When I do go D/L, I will probably continue to use 1.5 to author up to 8.5 gb and write from DVD folder with another app.
