My old StarTAC just died after another accidental bath in a toilet.
I was hoping it'll last until I can buy cool new mpx, oh well...

I've spent last 2 nights researching all the cellphones, smartphones, PDAs, PocketPCs, etc etc - and I still need help.
I think its impossible to find out and compare all the features of various brands/model without actual physical 'playing' with them.
Thus my asking for help to all of you mobile specialists out there.

HERE IS WHAT IM LOOKING FOR:
(doesn't matter is it cell/pda/pocketpc/etc etc)

    MUST HAVE:

    - built-in speaker/mic
(not neccesarily 'loudspeaker', just standard speaker/mic as any normal phone should have, I dont want to search for ×××× headset everytime I wanna make/receive call)

    -color screen

    - built-in camera
preferably capable of making motion videos

    BE ABLE TO:

    -play mp3
(in stereo, to headphones using standard minijacks)

    -browse internet
    no WAP-crap-only though, GPRS

    -send/receive emails, SMS,MMS,EMS

    -play motion videos

    -read ebooks

    - have some memory slot
for storing pics, or accessing mp3s/ebooks/videos etc

    ...thats basically it
I know I dont care about any downloadable MIDIs or polyphonic ringtones (almost always I use vibrating), I dont care about playing any games on it, and the quality of the built-in camera doesnt have to be 'high' (I have great 'analog' camera for this).
Any built-in PIM software would be cool, but I dont really care about it either, however some kind of connection for exchanging [hone numbers/email addresses between this device and my PC would be highly regarded. If it comes with Wi-Fi, WLAN, bluetooth etc its nice, but I dont need it.

Any devices out there capable of doing all this and not requiring me to get separate bank loan in order to buy it?

    TIA

  2. Sony Ericsson P900 is the best phone out there at the moment it will do all you want and more, I have one. Soon as the Motorola MPX comes out though I will be switching, that phone looks amazing.

Seems like a great phone, indeed.
But when Im out of the studio, I'll probably have its screen scratched or broken within days. Too bad it is not a flip-phone, or that the removable attachment doesnt come with larger 'flip' to cover entire screen, and with dialpad buttons on the inside (thats a major flaw to me).
Or are there any after market flip covers for entire screen - with or without any buttons? (if the dialpad can be virtually displayed on a screen instead of real buttns?)

  4. If you don't want physical buttons and all that other stuff, then you're looking a Pocket PC Phone Edition.

Not my cup of tea... I prefer my mobile to be a traditional phone (i.e., small, light, super battery life, but "dumb") and use a separate Pocket PC.

    Regards.

  5. If you want a flip phone then this may not be for you, but take a look at the recently launched Sendo X, it does all you ask and more.

There is no aftermarket full cover flip that I am aware of, but I use a screen protector which does a good job of protecting the screen. I remove the flip on mine and just use the virtual keypad.

    @bugster:

Couldnt find any retailer carrying Sendo X in US or Canada (Im in Canada). Do you know are they 'locked' to specific carriers etc (if I'd order it from i.e. Spain)? €443 seems like a good deal.

    @Craig Tucker:
Same question as above - I've found a retailer in HK thats ~30% cheaper than cheapest in here (however its still bit more than the budget limit I have set for my next phone). It is advertised as SIM-free and working everywhere in the world, but I dont trust any salesperson, especially from afar

I believe it will be launched in the US in the next couple of months (Only started shipping in Europe this month!), not sure about Canada. As for Sim Lock, if you buy it full retail (i.e. not subsidised with an airtime contract), it should be unlocked. Check with the retailer before you buy.

    Thx for help guys.
Unfortunately it seems I cant have cell what I want, either its not available here or I'd have a problem to use it with my carrier. That really sux.
    Goddamn it :/
I cant believe I still have to wait probly few more years until something like cellphone with media card slot, capable of taking any sucky motion video and browse internet with real browser instead of WAP becomes more common for major canadian carrier to offer it

  10. One thing that we seem to get better choice and availability of in Europe than North America is Mobile phones. I can go into town and get myself a P900 on contract for Free on a fairly high tafiff (which can be downgraded after 1-3 months) and be eligible to upgrade my phone after just 9 months.
