Searched, but threads were somewhat old and not quite what i was looking for.

Received an MPEG 1 all set up for VCD as far as dimensions, bit-rate, audio rate, etc. Plays just fine.

I wanted to remove some material, add some simple chapters, and burn a VCD.

I used mpgtxwrap to chop it up a bit which seemed to work nicely. All pieces played clean.

I usually use VCDBuilder when i want to quickly toss MPEG together with my own splash, and add chapters. It allows no choice but to have a chapter at the beginning of a sequence so i decided to join the kept pieces back together.

I tried using mpgtxwrap to join the pieces, but when i played the result, the join points were garbled. I retried joining with ffmpegx and they were cleaner, but still very rough for about 1 second. Lots of wonderful little flickering boxes.

I'm going to attempt putting multiple pieces into a sequence and see what VCD Builder comes up with, but does anybody know a sure way to wind up with a VCD having clean transitions between segments? Preferably just a way to cleanly edit MPEG 1 files that have matching characteristics.

I've also been seeing the occasional report from VCDBuilder that segments were "unaligned" and that huge amounts of padding were going to be added. As a relative newbie, i'm not clear on this alignment business.

do you still have the "large" single source you were "chopping" to bits?

Yes, I do still have the original MPEG 1 video file.

Is this transition thing a header problem?
