I just installed Nero 6.3, with Recode 2, and am still learning the pros and cons of the software package. Based on info I've read here, Im not sure if it will replace DVDShrink 3.05B, but thats another topic.

I've tested out the Nero Digital .mp4 conversion, and found out this file wouldn'y play on my home Philips DVP642/17. The manual says that this model supports MPEG-4 Simple Proile, or MPEG-4 Advanced Simple Profile (640-480). What does this mean? Is the Nero Digital not compatible, or a different codec all together?

If so, is there anyway to encode my Digital Nero .mp4 into this so-called simple or advanced simple profiles? Any MPEG-4 experts out there?
Any information is worth its weight in gold!

  2. Search for info on your Philips player. Most likely it does not like the .MP4 container that Nero uses. Most MPEG4 settop players support .AVI and some support .OGM but do not support .MP4

If so look up some of the howtos that explain encoding with Xvid or Divx into .AVI. Check the type of audio it accepts. If it plays .OGM files I would suggest encoding the audio to Ogg Vorbis, otherwise MP3 would probably be supported.
