  1. I helped a friend reinstall his OS and applications after his main HD drive died, all the software was installed fresh from the original CD’s into the new HD, but now Studio 8 is extremely sluggish to respond even to simple frame advances, let alone transitions. And the files it produces, both avi and mpeg, are extremely slow to complete and look almost unusable with macrobloks all over, and image distortion.

Needless to say, before he had his hard disk problem Studio 8 worked perfectly, and he is not new to video edition, so we are sure it has something to do with his new installation, we tried video files from different sources and uninstalling and reinstalling Studio 8 but it didn’t help.

All his other video application seem to work as usual (Tmpgenc, Tmpgenc DVD Author, MovieFactory, DVD Shrink, Virtualdub, and DVD2AVI)

    His computer:

    Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard
    1 Gb RAM
Two 80 GB 7200rpm hard disks
Windows XP Pro (with all updates)
    Athlon XP 2800

  2. Before loading S8 what is CPU / memory Usage? And when you run S8 what is CPU Usage.

If it is 100% (or close) at S8 load then something is amiss with installation. Did you load all the S8 patches? If not try that to see if it resolves.

  3. The CP load is at 2% and memory at 270 Mb without S8, but once we load a file in S8 CP usage jumps to 100% although memory seem ok at 380 Mb, In the old installation there weren’t any patches installed, but I will try applying a 16 Mb upgrade available at Pinnacle’s web site and post the results

  4. Nothings working because CPU is getting slammed... tells me install is bad / corrupt... possibly a patch OR reinstall... make sure you use the regedit tool they provide to remove all entries regarding S8 from the registry should you have to reinstall
