  1. I am looking for some advice. I have a bunch of master recordings that I am converting to DVD. I was thinking about getting a standalone burner as well to speed up the process, as I have thousands of tapes to convert.

    My question is basically this: is the quality of standalone capture comparable to PC capturing?

    Here is my set up. JVC HR-S9800U --> Datavideo TBC-1000--> ATI AIW 9800 Pro

    I was wondering if anyone who had occasion to use both methods had any thought about the 2 different methods.

    BTW, I only plan on converting my masters and 1st gen recordings that are 2 hours or less at this time. I will wait for the dual layer blanks to gte cheap before I convert my longer tapes.

    Thanks for reading

    JVC 9800 -> TBC-1000 -> ATI AIW 7200 = perfect results
    JVC 9800 -> TBC-1000 -> JVC DRM10SL = perfect results

    The JVC can do up to 4 hours at extremely high quality.
    The ATI AIW can do up to 3-3½ hours at extremely high quality.

    I use the ATI for harder projects.
    The JVC recorder for converting perfect source or off tv.

  3. Thanks for the input. I was going to ask for your opinion specifically, since you do lots of converting, but I didn't want to bug you.

    Because I have so many master tapes and SP 1st gen recordings that are almost perfect, I figured I could use my PC for the harder projects

    Guess it is time to go shopping for a JVC DVD burner!

    Thanks again

    Don't be afraid to ask me anything. PM me (here) or e-mail me (through my site). Just be nice, keep it short, and keep it infrequent is my only request.
