I just renammed a file (which was not a video file) with the extension of .MPG and now it is a video file but of course wont play. But how do I get rid of the extension? cause the text in the name of .MPG isnt there now. The file is just changed into an MPG. HOW? HELP?

Phew! Calm. Sorry, found me answer. Should have looked.
#1. open a folder any folder just open one.
#2. at the top of the folder click "Tools" then go to "Folder Options"
#3. go to the "View" tab
#4. take the checkmark out of the box next to "hide extensions for known file types". -
If I understand your post correctly, you need to go into the tools menu in 'my computer' and click on folder options. under the view tab, uncheck "hide extensions for known file types". then all the file extensions will be displayed and you can change them.

"hide extensions of known file types" is a stupid option. It should be eliminated from the face of the earth.
