I've been encoding and burning DVDs for some time now, and suddenly I'm missing som ADPCM codec (installed with XP) from Intel or Microsoft and my movies have no sound (not in WMP or Nero ShowTime, Nero VisionExpress, VirtualDub or TMPGEnc Plus). After burning a movie with NVE my DVD have no sound when played on my standalone DVD-player.

Then I installed the Microsoft IMA ADPCM CODEC, and now Gspot tells me that codec is loaded and render is OK using "DVI_ADPCM" for audio.

VirtualDub (and the others above) will still not play any audio - not even with movies I've encoded before with no problems (audio included).

Before I installed the codec VirtualDub told me that there was no audio and Gspot told med that I did not have the correct audio codec. After installing the codec VirtualDub give me this info about the audio:

    Sampling rate: 48000
    Channels: 2 (stereo)
    Sample precision: N/A
    Compression: Microsoft IMA ADPCM CODEC
    Layout: (indeterminate)
    Length: 135138 samples
    Frame size: (indeterminate)
    Data rate: [empty]

Anybody got a clue what happend?
How can I fix this problem?

BTW: I have no other problem with audio or sound - both Nero and WMP play my mp3's as normal.

It appears you are using PCM audio. Have you tried AC3 or MP2 audio?
PCM is an uncompressed, older audio format that's really only needed for serious compatibility issues. All newer players will play either AC3 (Dolby Digital) or MP2 (MPEG-1 Layer 2) audio which is compressed, sounds just as good, and saves disc space

    You mean when I'm encoding?

If so - yes I can try, but that won't help me with my current movies - or can I change what codec ex. VirtualDub are going to use?

I've tried to Directstreamcopy audio as wav with virtualDub, but there are no difference. WMP won't play the wav-file.
I also tried avi2wav but with no help.

The first app you use for encoding should have a place to change the audio format. They all do. Go in and try changing it. There's no reason to still be using PCM audio. :P

Look through the tools (tool section link at left) and check out the audio conversion utilities if you need to convert an existing one and can't reencode it. I never need to use them so I'm not sure what all is there, but there is probably a tool to do that. I know Canopus Procoder used to be a popular one, but that's expensive. Anyways, check it out. There should be a selection of free ones that'll probably do it for you
