2.also is it right that it takes about 9 hours to convert 2hrs of video and audio?

yes converting from a divx to mpeg will increase the file size.

with your computer specs it should not take 9 hours to convert. what settings are you using?

Encoding with VBR might cause it to take that long

  5. Crank up the quality, and be patient is the best method.

  6. I'm having a problem where I have an AVI file thats 716mb, when I try to make a VCD it encodes it and says not enough disc space.

If I convert this 716mb avi to an mpeg file it becomes 900mb+, which wont record onto a 700mb CDR.

What can I do to get a 900mb+ mpeg file to fit on a 700mb CDR?
Do I have to split the file into 2 mpeg's and record 2 cd's or can I resize the mpeg to fit under 700mb or whatever is needed, and if so what program allows me to do that?

Generically speaking, most AVI codecs can achieve much better compression than MPEGs while retaining the same quality. What this means is that what you have found is normal. The MPEG will generally be much larger than the AVI to retain the same quality.

Given your specs I would also expect quicker encoding times.
    If in doubt, Google it.

If you have a problem start a new thread to ask for assistance, do not hijack someone elses thread and detract the attention away from their problem.

To answer your question you either have to lower the bitrate, split the file or get some 90-99 min CDR's.
