  1. The other day I posted a message about my first DVD Copy.

Here's what I did and what happened:

    1) I bought a BenQ DW822A Dual Layer DVD Burner
    2) I bought a 25-pack of Pine DVD-R's
    3) After installing the drive, I updated the firmware and downloaded DVD Decrypter.
    4) I ripped a single layered DVD movie to my hard drive using DVD Decrypter(just the ISO)
    5) Still using DVD Decrypter, I then burned the ISO file to one of the blank Pine DVD-R's

That was it, then I tested it in 4 different players:

    1) Apex HT-100W = Freezes up every 10 seconds or so and keeps doing this...basically unwatchable.

    2) Sungale GD1000 = Works perfectly!

    3) Zenith DVD2381 = Doesn't play at all...just ejects after 20 seconds.

    4) Sony (forget model) = Works perfectly!

The one that I really want to work is the Apex one because that is my main home DVD player...it has built in surround and amplifier etc.

My friend says I should try a DVD+R instead, but I'm not sure if that will work.

The DVD Players page says that the Apex DOES play DVD-R, and it also says that the Zenith one plays DVD-R's!??

I don't want to keep burning usless DVD-Rs...

Should I try a different burning software or maybe a different burning speed or what? I really don't know what to do now...I really just want my Apex to work with these...but it seems like there's nothing I can do...

    Any suggestions?

    THANKS AGAIN!

I would suggest buying a good brand of media. I use both Riteks and Prodiscs. You can get them from Rima.com or Supermediastore.com.

Do a search in the DVD Media to review the Pine DVD-R's.

    Hope this helps .

  3. I would also suggest a better media.... you can trust media from Apple, Fuji, Sony and Maxell.

Now a lot of other Mfg sometimes use a good OEM Mfg and sometimes not. For instance - TDK uses CMC sometimes (crap) and sometimes they a top of the line mfg. But... you'll never know until you check MFG ID. Download DVDIdentifier ... it will tell you mfg of DVD. Then go to http://www.nomorecoasters.com to determine worth of ID's

Good luck... btw, I've never heard of Pine DVD's

  4. Just an update...

I purchased a Verbatim DVD+R yesterday and did the same thing with it that I had done with the Pine DVD-R, and I'm happy to say that the Verbatim DVD+R works perfectly in my Apex home theater DVD player.

Now, since Vertabim blanks are quite expensive compared to others, I'm thinking of trying another cheaper DVD+R to help determine whether the reason it now works is because of the BRAND or because it's a +R instead of -R?

What's usually the case? Is it the BRAND of media or the type, + or - R?

    THANKS...again!

Most newer players will accept both + or - and cheap media is widely rejected. Unfortunately there is a lot of bad media out there, be aware.

Did you buy your Pine disks at Futureshop? They have Maxell DVD's on for 25 for $29 Can., they're very good.

  6. Something else to pass along...

I just downloaded DVDInfo Pro in order to scan my burnt media for errors.

Well, I first tested one of my PINE DVD-R's that I had burnt and it was coming back with a whole slew of errors...ones that DVDInfo displays as:

    1. Error - LBA = 0000246ah
    2. Error - LBA = 0000260fh
    3. Error - LBA = 00002620h
    4. Error - LBA = 00002621h
    5. Error - LBA = 00002622h
    6. Error - LBA = 00002623h
    7. Error - LBA = 00002624h
    8. Error - LBA = 00002625h

So then I tried to see if my, what I thought was fine, Verbatim DVD+R had any similar errors and it did too!! It came back with at least a couple hundred errors listed just like the above ones!

So what's going on here?? They seem to play fine in various DVD players??

The Verbatim DVD+R is one of the better(older) Mitsubishi Chemical(MCC) types, so I thought that it would be a lot better and have no errors...

Are these Errors that DVDInfo displays just normal or something??
