Now we just need to talk her into the class photo. Anything would brighten up that group of mugshots!

Seriously, do you have a pic you'd want to post, babyboo? I'd like to add it to the class photo and dispel any myths that this is a men's only club

Don't tell me "I can't"...that is the fastest way to motivate Northcat. -
Babyboo, I apologize for some of my fellow posters...Thayne and Doramius...the only contact they have with women are the pictures that came in their wallets.
It would be nice if you submitted a picture of yourself to capmaster (unless you are a sheep) for the class photo...that photo could use a bright spot in there somewhere.
By the way, knowing that in your time here you have to have read some posts of...questionable humor....and were not offended. I have to tell you that not only am I amazed that you are still here, I am also impressed. -
Well he's right, it would be nice to have a picture of a female in that class photo. just to prove that there actually is at least one female member on this forum.

Hey hey hey....no cutting off the alcohol supply...I am just hitting my stride. Just wait until I get really lit, I'm not nearly as tactful and shy as I usually am.
That will have to wait for a later date though, it's already 1:19 am here in eastern time zone, I will be going to bed here shortly. -

well i admit i didn't read through all the posts, but my opinion is that the wife/mother should stay home and look after the children/house. guess i'm old fashioned. the world these days has become very complicated with respect to 2 parent working families.
less work hours...more pay -

A 13-14 year old kid, while they are old enough to stay at home by themselves, are not yet old enough to raise themselves.
It is a sad state of affairs and is only going to get worse. -
Not only do our children suffer from our current economy, but consumers suffer too. Big-ticket items like houses and new cars are priced for two incomes, not just one like in the past. Add in the outrageous wages the unions demand for basically unskilled labor, and you have a grocery-getter priced at $24,000
-
Cap,
Good analysis. 24 grand a year for a peon. What a ripoff.
My son in law is a "grocery getter" in a regional warehouse. All he has to do is pick, pack, and shrinkwrap 20 tonnes or so of geoceries to be delivered to the store in the AM. For this, he should be paid 160 bucks per shift, nay, 200 bucks, as they are on 4 10 hour days.
I know, you know a thousand people who would do this for 5 bucks an hour. Well, why aren't they there doing it?
Them what condemn the Unions for elevating wages never consider that without the same Unions, you, too, could be making 5 bucks an hour.
If you can't move to a Union shop next door, why would the shop you work at now ever increase wages? "Ain't no where for you to go to get more money, you gotta stay here."
Employers hate it when any shop gets unionized. They have to pay more to keep their present employees, and maybe a premium to keep those left from asking for a Union election for the rest.
13 % of the workforce Unionized, how can they be the ones causing the cost of living to rise at the rate it has? Mebbe with more allowed to donate to their preferred parties campaign coffers, the more responsive the representatives would be, not beholden to big business, nor trial lawyers, nor the medical profession. Or, in the present case, big business AND big oil.
Cheers,
George -
George,
I believe the Capmaster is referring to a car when he says "grocery getter". We typically refer to a basic "no frills" economy car as a "grocery getter". Virtually all automotive workers are Union.
However, you are correct. Unfortunately, Unions are also a factor in sending many jobs overseas. Sometimes in protecting the workers, Unions make the product being manufactured less viable in a global economy as it is priced beyond competitors products.
I really don't know where I fall on this issue, as I can see all sides -- the worker; the consumer; and the shareholder. It is a very complex and difficult issue. -
Ripper2860 - you are correct. I was referring to small economy cars

Unions have a good point and understanding, but if they are truly going to ask for better privleges, pay and conditions then they need to be more strict on who they allow into the unions. If they are fighting for better pay, it better be because they are all college graduates who have been working for over 2 years and can't get anything more than $35k a year. GED only people shouldn't be sucking the pay and jobs from people who've actually spent time and money to learn a profession. I also don't think a Burger flipper should earn almost $30k a year when there are teachers who earn $27k a year. I also think trade school degrees would be a nice addition to standard education degrees when coming into the workforce as it may give some students on hand experience. Granted that's what an intern is, but I feel degree backing in physical production would be a definite plus for skill reference. Internship sometimes means squat to companies. -
They have technical trade schools in many places. I had 4 years of electronics training instead of high school. Still had to complete all the requirements of high school, plus 3 hours a day of related math and science. Did that for two weeks, then two weeks of 8 hour days, 3 in the classroom, 5 in the shop. Rotate back to the academic cycle in two weeks.

Would have been easier right out of high school, but I don't think I would appreciate it as much.
I think cap was just dissapointed when he found out what Animal Husbandry 418 was really all about! -
He stuck with it though. He's got his 'BA' in Goats and Sheep.
