no, this only supports DVD+R DL. you have to wait till december for pioneer to
release their DVD-R DL drive.

im really waiting for that baby. and i think by that time DL media prices would have gone down a bit.

I'm hoping that they drop as quickly as DVD-R media did in 2002. Remember that? It went from over $30 each in mid-late 2001 to $2 - $2.50 in 2002 Maybe, just maybe next year the media will only be a few bucks each

The -RAM at 2x sux, since there are 5x media out there.
I wouldn't care less about DL or 16x speed, since any affordable media rated at this speed, from good manufacturers, is still far far away in the galaxy...

I see no point in getting it yet.
I still cant find any 8X rated reliable and affordable -/+ blanks for my few months old writers.

It uses ZCLV for hispeed DVD±R and CD-R instead of PCAV/CAV It's a joke to use ZCLV for 16x DVD±R, simply just a lame marketing trick. It burns only the last ~150 MB at 16x speed but thanks to the extra calibration needed for the switch it's actually slower at 16x than when burning at 12x! And for example the BenQ DW1600 is more than a minute faster when burning at 16x using CAV than what the A08 is at 16x using ZCLV, see here.

I'll consider a new burner when T.Y. decide to manufacture dual layer DVD+/- Rs at 8X (15 min to burn that is).
That means next June or the last quarter of 2005
